This just recently happened to me for english class. In the past we always had to read boring books that just didn't catch my attention. Recently however, we had to read the Graphic novel, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi. It is about based on the authors experiance as a child during the Islamic revolution in Iran, and it is actually interesting to read. One reason I enjoyed it was becuase of the graphic novel format, where the pictures really went well with the words, mostly, I believe, because they were done by the same person. What are your thoughts, any book you didn't wind up hating to read for school?

Siddhartha and Narcissus and Goldmund by Hermann Hesse. Well, I admit that I did get to chose them slightly. We had to pick two books from a list of authors and I chose Hesse. The books were great in my opinion and I plan on both eventually reading them again and reading more of Hesse's works.

1984 because I really like how George thought the world would be if communism spread through the world.

American psycho, Angels and Demons.
It just happened to be the only 2 times where we got to choose what to read.

Oh, and i think i read some of the gotrek & felix novels (warhammer fiction) in the lower grades during english classes because i was way ahead of most of the class, and my teacher couldn't really argue when i wanted to read 'real books' instead of the kid friendly (easy reading)stuff the class was doing

The Cobra Event. It was still a book of my choice, though. But it's the only book I've really enjoyed in a while. Our school library bores me.

I liked Goodnight Mister Tom, and I'm finding To Kill A Mocking Bird to be interesting.
Also, I rather liked Holes, at the time.

Wuthering Heights. It started off being just short of insufferable, but as the novel went on, it became quite compelling.

Other than The Giver, Les Miserables. The latter was after I read it again on my own time. I really don't enjoy having a book shoved under my nose with the intention of me reading it.

To Kill a Mockingbird and The Joy Luck Club, this book actually got me to read The Bonesetter's Daughter by the same author.

Most of the stories in my High school classes were very dark and damp. I couldn't get into them because every story was about death and poverty. A nice happy story would have been nice every once in awhile.
