Books and movies that would make great games (if done right)

When ever I see a movie trailer for a book that I loved and read, I get a kind of thrill and eagerly await for the release. But could the inverse ever be true too? If a movie or book game was actually done right (not one of those crappy spin offs that get released for every blockbuster) could it actually be good. What movies and books do you think would make seriously good games?

I, personally think that you could make Stephen King's Gunslinger into an epic game or movie.

Dante's Inferno COULD have been good, had it not:
Been Developed by EA
Came out after God of War and Ninja Gaiden.

I would have liked to see the Watchmen game turn out good, yet it didn't.
Those were my top two choices.

King's Gunslinger is already a game called Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath.

One of brian jacques redwall books. It would probably suck as a game but it would look awesome.

I'd still like to see another Gunslinger game in that case, one with much more of Stephen King's original lore and much, much less of Odd World. I don't know what the developers had in mind, but it certainly didn't seem like a tale from the epic Dark Tower.

Deltora Quest series would make and awesome lot of games as well as movies, but they are getting old now and it will never be done. The game would be very similar to such games like fable

The Fionavar Tapestry and Tigana might work as long as they only gave you a minor role so you couldn't screw with the plot ...

... but who wants a minor role that can't screw with the plot?

How about mini-series? The BBC's Walking With Dinosaurs [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFuVIqvIdpI&feature=PlayList&p=10C67AE4CEAE3BA1&index=0&playnext=1] could be good, either as a survival game or as a race for footage. Episode 3 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueMsa8BLMHc] was my favourite.

I've been holding out for a specific style of game that I just cant seem to find. Whilst it's neither a book or movie, the webcomic http://www.thezombiehunters.com/ would be that game, if it was ever made properly.

I just want that as a survival game. Desperately.

Gunna shoot me a mercy

I'd like to see one based on The Odessey, an rpg preferably.
Just going on an epic quest with Hercules and Odysseus...oh wait: http://pwned.com/userimages/1230584563-rise-of-the-argonauts.jpg
So much potential.....

Any of the Mortal Engines series by Philip Reeve could work as a game.

Also Keys To The Kingdom and The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix as well could work as adventure-type games.

How about Laurel K Hamilton's Anita Blake series?

If the game stays true to the books, you'd level up scarily fast and every year they'd simplify the quests and add more sexual content. The age-rating would go up faster than the beta-testers were having birthdays.

Damn ninja'ed. I have been waiting forever for someone to pick up that series and make a decent game. That and the Dark Elf series.

I could imagine them as Zelda style games or RPGs, maybe a mix of both.

I'd say Equilibrium as a TPS but there's already a mod for Max Payne 2 to that effect so... Uh... Kingdom of Heaven?

Just as long as I NEVER see Twilight: The Book The Movie The Game... in stores NOW! *shudder*

On a more serious note, I think Cell by Steven King or The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks would be really good. One a survival horror, the other about an uber-assassin.

Snow Crash by Neil Stephenson is a phenomenal book, and it could be a very interesting game. There are a lot of possiblities for how to do this one (action/rpg/fighting), so that helps.
