I'd love to play as a Nazi for once...
I'm tired of being Joe McAmerica or Vlad Russiaosky... I wanna be the bad guy for once! I wanna be the Italian soldier for once! I wanna be the Japanese soldier for once! I wanna be the Nazi for once, damn it! This, for sure. If it means I get to play as a Nazi, then yes...
In that case, go get Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts or/and Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor as well as the original Company of Heroes.
OF and ToV both let you play as axis forces, there are 6 campaigns in the entire game, one long in the original CoH, two long ones in the OF-expansion and 3 short ones in the ToV-expansion. Two of the short ones in ToV and one of the long campaigns in OF let you play as the germans (beware: the Falaise pocket-campaign is really, really boring and a little buggy). I also recommend it otherwise because it is a great RTS with a immersive multiplayer (trust me, when playing this you can lose the conciousness of time, I was gaming together with two friends of mine when we suddenly noticed that two of us should've left approx 30 mins ago for the last train that night, it was a long, long way home).
Back on topic, 1984 has a movie already, it is called the beginning of Half-Life 2, but since games can't let the main character suffer defeat early, it becomes a sci-fi shooter
My suggestion: Ender's game. Make the space-battles into logic-RTS-puzzles and the simulation-battles (in that gravity-free and sentripetal-free room) into some kind of innovative shoot'em'up with all kinds of fancy gadgets. Hard to do, but worth it if you manage to pull it off. I havn't seen a shoot'em'up seen from FPP where you battle somewhere there's no forces that affect you, so that you can bounce around. If you know of one, let me know. And of course, if possible: incorporate both CO-OP and versus multi-player (not just 2p for versus)
