Since movies based on books seem to be doing pretty well (see Harry Potter, Twilight, LOTR, Benjamin Button, etc.) now let me ask you: what books should be made into movies and who should be in it.

To me the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher would be good with Liam Neeson as Gaius Sextus would be a great movie.

None, because books suck, I jks, but really, you know what doesn't suck, the search feature.

The Hardy Boys would make a good childrens movie.

damnit.. please im not trying to be snobbish or anyhing but youve been around long enough to know how to use the search button. this exact thread has been done many, many times before. i mean by seeing your posts its obvois you were around the whole elitst debate thing. im sure you read at least one post where everyone was shouting "use the search button!"
if its been done once, and the thread is long dead fine. but if it was done at least 2 weeks ago just keep posting on the latest one.

Jennifer Government.
World War Z (it's coming ... someday)
Neverwhere (Neil Gaiman's opus. The BBC made a movie of it, but it was utter shit.)

See I have to take issue, Lord of the Rings aren't all that, Tolkien's ideas outstrip his abilities as a writer

None. Books should stay away from a Hollywood career. It always ends up badly in my opinion.

Well...does anybody know the author Patrick Robinson? Wrote a series of very good thriller novels, like (and in mine and plenty of other people's opinions better than) Tom Clancy.

Anyway, they would make good movies. If Tom Clancy can do it so can he.

Harry Potte... oh wait. Chronicals of Nar... oh nevermind. The Boy in Strip... oh fuck they did that too!?!? The Roa... Oh okay those bastards at Hollywood have ruined my favorite books for the last time! (Grabs baseball bat)

Who can guess all the movies I was about to say? They get harder as you go... and better!

Game of Thrones to be made into a series please (too long for films to work)
Already is isn't it? HBO project so it should have the funds a project of this scale would require.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_of_Thrones_(TV_series) for more details.

I honestly can't think of any novels crying out to be adapted to film. Maya by Jostein Gaardner would make quite an interesting film I suppose.

After what they are doing to the Dragonlance novels, i am forced to never again endorse book/film crossovers.

I could link it, but it really is horrific.

Artemis Fowl, it is a more casual series that makes fun of most stereotypes and doesn't borrow all of its ideas from myths, legends, or witch hunts.

The way Hollywood is running out of ideas and resorting to adapting every piece of literature there is, every book is going to eventually be made into a movie.
