Clans of the Alphane moon by Philip K. Dick.

It has hobos with mental delusion firebreathing lizards, a girl whose job is to bring accident-victims back to life by rewinding time, a sentient slime-mold that uses it's telepathic powers to offer relationship advice, and a main-character who spends most of the book trying to kill his wife with a robot!
I generally hate the filmatisations based on his work (Minority report can &&*8 off a cliff) but this one I'd be interested to see. It has one of my favourite depictions of political conflict, in which the main character has no idea what is going on and that very well depicts how that kind of thing is for a normal person.
However, no studio would ever risk a project like this in a fear they'd get accused for making fun of mental patients. Which the book does, but in a way that's not condescending or mean and it's towards the people rather than the problems they face, if that makes any sense.
And it has quite a lot to say (or rather ask) about the definition of "mentally sick" and how the definition of "normal" will change according the culture.
Also I want an anime based on the manga HayateXBlade. They already made drama CD's, here's hoping we will eventually get an anime.
