If you could any book (or book series) to become a game, which would would you choose?

I would like an RPG based on the DUNE series, but I think it would be very difficult to make a good game based on the series.

Twilight of course, just to see the hilarious reaction from the people on this site. Hell, I'd buy the damn game and review it just for the amusement.

Which reminds me, I really should start writing reviews.

Hmmm... I'd like a game/games based on either the Mortal Engines series by Philip Reeve (Or even loosely based, imagine controlling a traction-city...) or the Horus Heresy series by various authors (More interesting than normal W40K, the Space Marines are actually people, not just faceless killing machines. And it isn't all about the Astartes, either...)

I was disappointed when I found out Call of Cthulhu: Destiny's End was cancelled because of how much I loved Dark Corners of the Earth. Though I am glad they didn't try rushing Destiny's End and screwing it up. I would love to see a more stealth based Lovecraft game kinda like the Escape from Innsmouth chapter of DCotE.

Of course it would be just as fun to see that go the polar opposite way by means of Lego Cthulhu: Dream Quest of Madness [or whatever]

I would also enjoy a Barry Trotter game series...and a DISCWORLD MMO [or some other flavor of RPG]

A Dune RPG would be interesting. You could have your character start in a sietch as a random Fremen, or even as a Bene Gesserit.

I think it's time for a Sandman inspired game. We need a game featuring Dream and the rest of the Endless. I don't know how it would be done, but toss in Tim Schafer and it could come out pretty awesome.

Such great characters! It's a game that needs to be done!

I wanted a game based on Arkady's Roadside Picnic and it's already been made ^^.

The only books i've read completely are Max Brooks' Zombie Survival Guide and i highly they'll make a game out of that and the other is The Inferno by Dante Aligheri and that's been done as well much to a very upset people's chagrin.

I'd like to see a team-based space shooter in the style of the game from Ender's Game happen. Complete with body parts being frozen when hit and frozen players being used as obstacles to hide behind.

It would be interesting to see an actual 3D space area like that done correctly for a change. None of that 2D space stuff we see too often. Heck, that's the only reason I'm mentioning Ender, if you've read it, you'll get what I mean by that.

Well I definitely know I DON'T want a game based on the epic poem Paradise Lost! The scary thing is, with Dante's Inferno being 'based' on the Divine Comedy, its actually quite plausible that some idiot will try and make a game from Paradise Lost too... eugh!

Actually, now that I think about it, I don't want ANY book or film that I like being turned into a game... especially considering the track record of movie/game tie ins!

Twilight as a beat 'em up where you play as Pai Chan from Vrtua Fighter, beating everybody up. Stephenie Meyer is the final boss, and wonderfully easy to beat up.

In all seriousness, though; I'd like a Phantom of the Opera sneak 'em up, where you play as Erik (that's the name of the phantom, duh!) and always try to avoid being spotted. If you get caught you have to do something scary or kill the one who spoted you. It'd be developed by Hideo Kojima and Junko Kawano.

That would be so cool! I'd buy it.

I'd like a game of Sabriel, or the entrire "The Old Kingdom" series by Garth Nix, but first I've gotta wait and see if a good film is made first.

I think a game series of "The Dark Tower" by Stephen King would be really good to play, but only if it was done extremely well, because a prequel would be of Roland as a child (which would be a fun chapter) or just Roland walking along a desert for a damn long time.
It'd be good if it went more into depth about the other characters and how everyone ended up..."there" alongside Roland's quest.
Orrrrrr it could be about all of his training (yes a prequel, even though I just said "no" up a little) and then how he got to walking through the Desert, which would comfortably encompass the story of Wizard and Glass as well, or skirt around it and then only be shown when all the other games came out.
BBBBUUUUUUTTT before all that they should make the films.

Upon reading the thread, I decided for this option instead.
(unless the games were done REALLY well).
But other then that, this option.

James Clavell's Shogun novel no doubt ;

This has everything,I wish you all read this in your lifetime. It has 1600 pages and it's way too short.

The game would have pirates AND ninjas
*EDIT* I just found out this is the first novel out of 5-runs to the bookshop-*EDIT*

the two i want to suggest have already been mentioned; Dune and Ender's Game. also the old book Hatchet, by Gary Paulson, needs to be made into a good game.

I think the famous Baldur's Gate was based in the Forgotten Realms of R.A.Salvatore (well, other authors too). I think there could be a lot of games based on that series, whether RPG or more of an action/adventure game. There could be a wicked game where you play as Drizzt Do'Urden that features awesome Assassin's Creed style combat and gameplay although maybe with a little more stealth action.

Stephen King's the running man.... essentially the game is that you are free to move about the country with a 48 hour headstart before they send 'hunters' after you. Oh, and if any of the show's viewers spot you they can call a hotline and win cash. And, any cop or hunter you take out nets you more money.

And the catch, is that you also have to send recordings of yourself to the game studio every day.

Fantastic book, and would make for a crazy game.

THIS!

I've had a good time reading both Dante Alighieri's and John Milton's masterpieces as well. I also remember the unfathomable loathesomeness I felt when I first got to play 'Dante's Inferno' at last year's GamesCom.

I bet, that if Dante was still alive, he would totally go Alan Moore on Visceral Games.

By the way, I would like to see a game version of Moby Dick.
Just to see how they would fuck it up.

An RPG based in the world of, though not necessarily on the plot of A Song Of Ice And Fire.
