Anti-religious bullshit incoming! Take cover!
[/HEADING]

Anyway, now that that mandatory thingy-majigger is over, I'm going to go for the exact opposite of what I just warned about. I think that Richard Dawkins' The God Dilemma needs to get burned. Why? Because I'm allowed to believe what I want, and having a book calling me a dumbass isn't going to change my mind.
Is it really so wrong that I believe in something rather primitive? No sir, no it is not. It may be primitive, silly, all around unlikely, but you know what? It makes me happy. So I reserve the right to believe that there is an invisible man in the sky.
It is a awful book and the guy is a total jerk but even destroying it is a act of evil :(
You know what? You are right. To kill an idea is worse than killing a man, for killing an idea is to destroy a man's existence itself. Or something like that.

As much as I think Dawkins is a dick, he has a right to publish what he wants to.
You are a good man!

I hate calculus textbooks. There are no good calculus textbooks. Every calc class I've taken, I've found a better source material from the google searchbar.
I certainly hope that herp-derp religion statement wasn't directed at me.
I just don't like it when people claim that religion is bad, is all. In the right hands, it is a good thing to have.

I'm guessing you're talking about the God Delusion, right? I wouldn't say the book flat-out calls you a dumbass, no more then most religious texts do, in fact I saw the God Delusion primarily as a book that explained how morality is an independence factor within human society that shapes religion, rather then vice-versa. This argument, I feel, NEEDS to be brought to light in the modern world. Too many people who feel future shocked are arguing that religion dictates morality, when in fact it's the changing attitudes of social morality that dictates what religion teaches (hence why we don't sell our daughters into sexual slavery, which the Old Testament allows).

Twilight. Also, I want to destroy To Kill A Mocking Bird mostly because of the movie. The movie was so annoying I now despise the book.
but I have to say I actually liked the movie because the child actors actually ACTED WELL, but that's just me.
The movie was in black and white (which makes it hard for me to keep attentive, but I understand it was made a long time ago) and it is centered around little kids with extraordinarily high pitched voices that resembled the scratching of a chalk board and they spoke with the most annoying southern accent (which is also comparable to nails on a chalkboard). It was completely unappealing to both my eyes and ears. Any good points of the book I liked where completely drowned out by those damned kids! Again, just my opinion... my very petty opinion.

Twilight. Enough said.

Though I also hate books like "Pride and Prejudice", and "House of Mirth", basically the Victorian-era snorefests I was forced to read for school.

Who reads that stuff anymore?

the Doom novels.

If I had to choose between twilight and the doom novels, I would pick twilight.

these books are vomit-worthy.

I think if anything, it was aimed at both you and myself. And infact anyone who brings up religious texts or anti-religious texts.

(seriously, my bible thing was in jest, I had very little choice)

I suppose that you have a point.
While I'm most certainly against a lot of things in the bible, my main attachment to religion is simply that I believe there is some form of entity that holds the universe together. I've never read the bible, I don't go to church, but I believe that there HAS to be some form of energy -weather you call it god, karma, science, whatever- that must exist.

Silly? Sure. Impossible? Nay!

I actually found your response funny, yours' actually had a punch line. The others, not so much.

Dawkins never wrote a book called The God Dilemma. He did, however, write one called The God Delusion. I sure am glad you want an imaginary book burned and not one of my favorite books of all time.

I don't think you're wrong for believing in a magic sky daddy, but I do believe that it is foolish based on objective evidence. You may have subjective evidence, though, of which I can say nothing about.

You are correct in calling Dawkins a dick, though. He most certainly is. Since I'm on his side of the fence and not yours, I find it hilarious.

I'll vote any book claiming a magic sky daddy. Oh, and a book I picked up the other day to read and refute called The Collapse of Evolution. Shit, creationists are stupid.

Umm...I'd sacrifice Eragon and everything on this page in a heartbeat (with ANTIGUA and The Fifth Sorceress getting special mention), and as an afterthought I'd add George Orwell's 1984 and Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. Gaining honorary mention are any pro-athiest text, but because all of them have the same name I'm not going to mention any specifics.

The Eye of Argon is close, but gets a pass for the same reason as Rocky Horror and Ed Wood movies. The world needs literature that bad.

So what books do you want thrown on the burning pile?
None. No matter how bad the book or evil/stupid the author, I would never advocate the burning of any book. To destroy ideas for any reason is fundamentally wrong. If you dislike a book, write a critical review or satirize it, but don't burn it. You don't kill someone because they have a different opinion that you.
Please see above comment about it being 'fictional destruction', I obviously wasn't clear enough in my first post.
My apologies, I did not catch that from the OP. It might help if the thread was called "Books You Hate" instead of "Books You Want Horribly Destroyed". When you start talking about eliminating books and burning piles, you convey a drastically different meaning.

Why, oh why, would you want both those excellent dystopian books destroyed? Especially when you could just go back in time and get rid of WE, by Yevgeny Zamyatin in 1920, which both Orwell and Huxley openly admitted to ripping off :p

Twilight and all the horrible bandwagon-jumpers that came after it.

Partly because they're almost always atrociously written and partly because they send really bad messages to the people who read them. (Like "Abuse and stalking are sooooooooo romantic!" and "If a boy stalks and abuses you, he just likes you and you should be flattered!")

Also, Catcher in the Rye. I don't give a shit if you think it's all ~*deep*~ and that Holden Caulfield is the voice of rebellion or youth or whatever. To me, he just came off as a whiner the entire book--forerunner of the modern emo kids. Yecch.

No. It's mostly the wishing of destruction on all religious text. Instead of coming up with reasons, people parrot off the same crap reasons. I'm an Apatheist, dammit, there should be standards to denouncing religion.

Any book related to a video game in some way. Games are prolific enough and fully capable of telling their own story. If they want to expand the universe's lore, then they should have either put it in the game, or make a new one and include it.

I'm inclined to throw Star Wars Novels in there, but then I remember how fucking awesome Heir to the Empire was and that the one book that permanently destroyed my positive perception of Star Wars novels (Shadows of the Empire) was also a video game based book.
