A game based on Card's Ender's Game would be pretty cool so long as the focus isn't on Ender or Bean because their stories have already been told. Making a game based on Battle School would be far better that trying to re-tell Ender's Game via videogame. There could also be a mini-game mechanic featuring th Fantasy Game or the games in the game room. Battle School could make a great setting for a videogame so long as the focus is not on any of the established characters.
It would be cool if they changed the title of the game so people who have read the book might not realize right away what's going on. Then the ending would still have a surprise like reading it the first time. (I agree too that the main characters should be left out).

All the Drizzt Do'Urden (by R.A. Salvatore) stories set in the Forgotten Realms would make great action/rpg if done properly. I was thinking an Oblivion-like gameplay with D%D rules, but not like the clunky suckfest that was D&D Online.

Yes, there have been rpgs set in Icewind Dale and Drizzt DID have some cameos in a few games, but never anything starring him.

The Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher. But they'd probably screw it all up...
Could work... But I'd personally love to see the Codex Alera series made into games, if they got it right of course. The fury system of magic is pretty innovative and would allow for great character customization. Name your fury, allocate points into furies, specialize in one or be a jack of all trades...

I'm only on the 5th book right now, so I'm not sure how the series ends. But the game could take place before or after the books, or as another character during the books. I don't think you should play as Tavi since that could be too linear...

Perhaps the game could take place before the battle of First Calderon, leading up to it? I see it as being an Oblivion style game, but with more focus on magic (furies). It's such an impressive world... You could go on covert missions to the Cane homeland, fight the Snowbeasts with the Antillar forces, etc.

Hell, what if you played as Fidelias pre-Codex Alera? Now that would be cool. Nice name, by the way ;)

"One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" would make a kick ass hack and slash. Just think about it for a second. The Cat In The Hat would be force to face his inner demons, in the form of fish and the other mini poems in the book.

The Night Angel trilogy would probably make a good series of video games. Make it like a cross between Thief and Assassins Creed and you'd probably have a game of the year.

Ninja'd. I thought I was the only one who thought those books were badass and beautiful at the same time. I would think it would sorta be like Batman: AA in terms of stealth/combat mechanics. It's based on stealth, but if you get caught, it doesn't feel like you messed up. The "Talent" would also be a good gameplay mechanic. Throughout the game you have something like an adrenaline meter that can make you open a can of whoopass, but when you get your Talent, a whole new set of abilities open up. All of you game devs. out there, read that series and make this game already...

Fight Club...how would that work?
Well, they tried to make a game from the movie...didn't work

OT: The Hunger Games series of books could be a fun game. Yeah you're running around killing kids, but the story is great?
Wait they did? Did they actually finish it or was it killed off before it could see the light of day?

so like a detective game but with magic?

There was recently a Dresden Files table top game released. A lot of the focus of it is on world building. I haven't played it myself but a few friends of mine tried out a beta or something, and I will play that game at the first opportunity.

They finished it, it just wasn't any good. Being released way after the movie (2004 or 2005) it appears that it was made as a cash-in, and nothing more.

Well Neuromancer already had a game, So I guess "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?" would make a pretty good adventure game.

Thanks, Fidelias was my favorite character in the book. I like how he's kind of good but kind of evil sort of thing.

But yeah, you're right, the Codex Alera books would work a whole lot better, since the best part about them is the world. Not that the characters are bad, at all, but you could always make more characters, which wouldn't work in the Dresden Files because the best part of those books is Harry Dresden.

Dude, I'm totally invisioning this game right now. It makes me sad, because such an awesome game will never come to be...

I'd be very ok with this. This, or a more story driven narrative exploring one of the many subplots or minor characters as they impact the events of the book.

I know, eh? The closest thing I could see happening is if they made a movie, and then a game based on the movie... So a game based on a movie based on a book. And therefore a linear action adventure game.

I guess we always have all of the other RPGs out there to be legionnaires and Knights Ignus in.

I adore the Seikai no Sekai anime, manga, and books.
I could easily see them as a sort of 'Star Trek Online' & 'Mass Effect' meets 'Sins of a Solar Empire' set of games.:

The Night's Dawn Trilogy by Peter F. Hamilton; easily one of the most EPIC of books I've ever read. However, as a game, I'm not sure how it could be done.
There's so much plot doing on in the books, and a LOT of strange stuff...
I guess a sort of a...I mean...um...I have no idea, really.
You could make an adventure game that's a mix of Heavy Rain and Mass Effect.

It's always nice to see another Munchausen fan!
Anyway...a lot of my favorites have been mentioned already: Discworld, Wheel of Time
One of John Grisham's novels might make a nice adventure story. The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind would be awesome, too. The Wizard of Oz series would be fun, too; the books have quite a rich selection of characters and places.

An Oblivion-style game in the Wheel of Time world might be fun. Well, it would be fun in most reasonable fantasy settings too I suppose. I have no idea what kind of game Discworld would best translate into though.
There was a WoT game in the Unreal engine. Was pretty neat for the time, especially since you could (apparently) build your own castle for team-play. You can still dig up the demo, I played it a few months ago. Obviously no team-play or castles in the demo.
