Hi there Escapist, what are you reading today? You know, books? They are made of paper and can be used to craft book shelves in Minecraft can be used for entertainment?

I kid but what is the last book you've seriously read or are in the process of reading.

I'm reading "Stalin: The Court of the Red Tsar". Very interesting reading about what new archives that have been released revealed about the man. All of that political intrigue... Really fascinating.

Well then, your turn.

Essential Cell Biology
Cancer Biology
Various others :'-(

Asides from exams I just finished reading Best New SF 24, which was fairly good. I may give Coalescent by Stephen Baxter another read.

At this point the only books I have time to read are for class. Being a history major tends to have that effect...

Anyway, right now I'm reading Shaky Colonialism, about the 1746 earthquake that destroyed Lima. It's not bad, though I'm a bit leery of the fact that the professor assigned us his own book.

American Gods by Neil Gaiman was the last book I read. It's pretty good, all about various gods from around the world trying to survive in modern America, and competing with the 'new' gods of technology, media, etc. I intend to hit the bookstore later in the week though, as books are my primary method of delaying my inevitable shooting spree.

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens for my Victorian Literature class.
Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid for my Global Literature class.
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon because it was recommended to me.

It's all terribly enthralling stuff; except, not. I've never liked Dickens and Kincaid is fine but its the fifth in a line of postcolonial works that I've had to read, so I'm getting a little jaded.

House of Leaves IS awesome, I would love to get the full colour edition.

I don't think I ever finished all the letters at the end so I have a good excuse to go back and reread the whole thing =)

Currently reading Against a Dark Background from Iain M Banks but it hasn't really grabbed me yet like Inversions or Player of Games did, though so far I definitely like it better than Use of Weapons.

I have that. Bruce is always good for a story.

Anyway, I've been reading Disappearing Spoon.

The Black Prism by Brent Weeks. I found his Night Angel series rather good so picked this up when I saw it. It's not bad so far and he does have some interesting ideas for working magic in this world.

Currently wrapping up The Fires of Heaven, the fifth book of the Wheel of Time series.

I also read a bit of Terry Pratchett's Snuff already, but I'm saving the most of it for when I finish The Fires of Heaven. After two-thirds of a year of reading Wheel of Time exclusively (well, and comics) it's time for a bit of a break.

You're the first I encounted that's also reading it. So what do you think of it so far?

Antony & Cleopatra - Shakespeare

Thief of Time - Terry Pratchett

The Russian Experiment in Art 1863-1922 - Camilla Gray

The last one's a bit of hangover from my degree, the first one's amending my incredibly poor knowledge of non-comedic Shakespeare, and the middle one's just for fun.

It's OK so far... I've only read about 70 pages or so and it's only just established most of the major players, but the one thing that's grating at me: the Scottish! I'm generally a sucker for Space Opera, so I'll leave it a few hundred pages before I get back to you properly...(!) -_-

Right now I'm reading Gears of War: Anvil Gate. After that I shall go on to the Halo Foreunner series. Games to books seem to work really well.
