Probably not that far, I tend to walk 50 feet on the sides or behind my squad picking off whatever they spot or are suppressed by.

TF2 sniper is the only one that I will play. Counter sniping gives me the warm fuzzies! Also, pinning someone to a wall with the huntsman makes me gitty, lol.

It can be useful in certain games. Sniper in TF2 can take out an overhealed heavy in one shot which can really mess up the opposing teams push. In a balanced, objective based team game it makes sense as certain classes have definite advantages in close/mid range and the sniper counters them but sacrifices vision while scoped thus making them easy to sneak up on.

It can be fun too as it's much harder to hide in TF2 it being a bold art style. You have to smart about where you are and move around a lot to prevent spies/pyros sneaking up on you. Also anything less than a headshot will not kill most (maybe all) classes outright and all the snipers are single shot I'm pretty sure so getting that second shot off is more of a non-option.

I'm just geeking out really, I love TF2.

Also as someone said above me you get different kill feeds for head shots and with the Machina (can penetrate multiple enemies) if you get two kills with one bullet it will play a very obvious (and epic) sound effect which is heard by everyone on the server.

Edit: I should state I don't snipe, I suck at it in all games. I just recognize when someone is supporting their team with it. In objective based gameplay a sniper is one less person capping points or whatever so they have to play well to make up for that.
got that for the first time last night (2fort, not my favourite map but ok). It was a double headshot. I micspammed with glee

Nice, I didn't know what it was for a while but I knew something amazing must have happened!

What I want to know is, why? Sure, every now and then I get the urge to just try and beat my own long range headshot record in a game I'm playing, or to just kick back and take potshots at whoever dares to enter my tunnel vision, but I don't understand why people would want to do that every time they play.

It's not very fun unless you happen to be doing very well and the enemy team is dumb enough to keep walking into your sniper's nest, but that doesn't happen that often. So why does everyone always go for the sniper setup?
I find it very fun and very satisfying to play sniper, the feeling I get when each pull of the trigger (Or rather click of the mouse) provides me with a kill, often on high priority targets or on annoying people who flount their "Unbeatableness"

Sure I don't top the kills on the scoreboard (As often as frontliners be they quickscopers/SMG or assault rifle users/Soldiers and demomen in TF2) and sure my team complains at me for "Doing nothing worthwhile" while I'm safe in the knowledge that my part in the winning of the match was fairly large (Ubercharge ready! *BOOM*)

Heck I've spent enough time practicing my aim (Another great thing about it, the fact that knowing what you're doing takes some skill rather than spraying in a general direction like some weapon set ups need) that I can still get sniping done on more enclosed maps through positioning and being good at close range shots (That involve a target being in the crosshairs for a fraction of a second a lot of the time)

As for my longest shot? I believe it was something like 1.2k yards in Global Agenda (I fired and just as the target left my veiw distance and a second later (When the shot had traveled that far) I hear the hit land and the kill come up).

PS: I absolutely SHREDDED the opposing snipers that match, and spies tasted my knife 4 times outta 5. including before the one man slaughter I had about 200 kills to 60 deaths, 100+ of which were headshots. I left the server a happy camper.

I was a prominent "Bush Wookie" in black ops on the one jungle map. There was this litte bush on the trail next to the huts as you walked down to the canyon area that no one ever thought to look. I could sit in there and get three or four kills before anyone would put a bullet in me. It was all kinda of funny to do.

"Happy Camper" icwutudidthar! Sounds sick, I don't play ctf at all but I can appreciate dem stats!
I'm always surprised by how strong the kukri is when I'm sneaking up on snipers as spy. Really forces you to get that backstab.
I've been playing a lot of koth and I main as Soldier so I dislike snipers intensely lol as from long range my rockets are far too slow. It's quite cathartic to rocket jump into enemy territory and shovel them to death though so I'm fine with it.

I'm not sure about what my record on BC2 is, never much cared for the sniping in it or when I got really long range kills.

In COD there are a few levels where I will camp, often relocating after a few kills, or getting a better position. My favourite map for this in MW2, Wasteland. I have a set up JUST for that map alone ;)

The thing is, I rely on my camoflage in order to do this, I don't camp in buildings or around corners, I use the map and flora to my advantage.

I get more satisfaction from hearing "HEADSHOT!" in UT :D

I enjoy sniping in most FPS' but I find doing it to often gets extremely boring. My preferred method is ambush, set up shop in a room to my liking and then basically running a spider-hole routine on any enemies coming through my area (meaning luring them in and then getting them with mines or a shotgun or SMG). I enjoy having snipers in a game because I enjoy hunting them, slipping past their defenses, and either giving them a quick knife to the back or rifle bullet to the head. I find it extremely satisfying :)

i have no problem with snipers. but i do with quickscopers. I don't see why my dedicated CQB build in MW2 should be consistently outshot by what's supposed to be a distance weapon.

I like being stealthy, it's more tense than running forward and dying. I'm just a massive drama queen I guess, so I like the suspense and the immersion of holding my breath as I aim the last split millimetre right...
And the headshot sound, no matter the sound file it uses, any variation of the PING! is worth it.

And longest range? In fallout New Vegas, when the enemies turn into ghosts due to the range (transparent through the scope, invisible without). In MW2, right across Derail I guess counts.

As for them being a problem; if they move every few kills, and they aren't quickscoping, I'm cool with being sniped.

A thousand times, this.

OT: When I snipe (Which isn't often), it's typically because I have a team of sheep. You know, the ones who constantly flood into the most firmly secured area the enemy has and wouldn't be caught dead flanking. I tend to sit back just behind the front line and soften the other team's defenses a bit, hoping it'll tip the balance in my flock's favor.

In BF:BC 2 it was around 600m or something like that on Heavy Metal. In CoD 2 I had an amazing headshot against some prick camping at the top of the Death Star when I had a M1 Grand.

A sniper rifle is to snipe, pure and simple. I have no problems with people doing just that. But if people start to use it as an overpowered battle rifle and quickscope their way up the lists and think it's skill I get pissed...

My distance record? I think I would have to go back to the old Delta Force Land Warrior days. I made quite a couple of good shots over 1000m back then. (more luck than skill, but whatever)

This is why I play Sniper Elite. Good, fun, bloody game, where you can spend about 5 minutes lining a nice shot up, then watch the bullet fly to the guy in slow motion, before blowing his head off.

I agree. It's not my cup of tea not least because I'm no good at it - my reactions are usually too slow. In TF2 I prefer to use the Hunstman and get in close for those satisfying headshots (like when they spin round or get stuck in walls). I don't usually mind if someone camps, as long as they don't do it all the time, killing you before you can get to the action like in DM Store in TF2.

I do love myself a bit of sniping.. especially when you're fighting other snipers around a map, you both know it but neither of you knows where to go.. tense and potentially awesome if you can kill them..

My favourite experience is on the CODMW2 map wasteland, perfect for sniping so much grass and a few houses as well as the hedgerow..

In essense I snipe because its fun watching the enemy fight my team 100s of meters away and then to pick of the stupid heavy gunner whos sitting out of a window ledge.. they'll never know what hit them..

Pro-tip, on Cod with kill cam on.. never ever zoom out after a kill, otherwise they get an idea of where you are, or at least any good player should recognize your Kampy spot..

It can be VERY satisfying. Especially if you aren't being seen/heard by the enemy and can just sit there doing your thing for a long time. I remember having the rifle and the silencer in the old Action Quake mod and sitting in a dark corner sniping people for the whole map. I only left to go get ammo. The only reason I had to move other than that was because people stopped coming anywhere near that area on the map :D.
