I don't know about the rest of you, but I really liked Borderlands.
It had co-op, lots of guns, replay value, a cool art-style, and lots of guns. LOTS.
Because of its success (2,000,000+ copies sold apparently) a sequel looks inevitable.
What do you guys think they could add/improve to the sequel?
I thought a single-player to multi-player integration thingo where guns and armor and abilities you earn in single-player can be used in various new multiplayer modes and vice-versa. Find a really awesome rocket launcher that fires 6 corrosive rockets at once? Take it online and blast some whining American twelve-year-olds in the face with it!
Course, balancing something like this would be tough as hell, but if Gearbox pulled it off, that kind of thing would be amazing...
Your thoughts?

A story is all it needs.

It had the action, the characters, the humour, the artistic style and the game-play length. Co-op worked very well and was flexible, if a little easy to boost. The guns worked well and the controls were well thought out.

Pretty much the only thing that would have improved it would have been an Epic story. So they need to make it like the first but with one of those. This will probably mean mostly new characters, and it should probably be on a different planet too.

Oh, and bring back Patricia Tannis, she is quite possibly the most amusing NPC ever created.

Yeah this.

I heard that the story was just an excuse to "go there blow those guys up".
I mean I enjoyed borderlands as it was (except for that damn auto-aim (thank god they added an option to disable it)) but the story really was very basic.

Edit: also even more guns because we need moar :D
Maybe some new types of weapons and classes as well.

I know that this wouldn't be too balanced, but how about gun construction? The ability to build any sort of gun from the ground up sounds appealing. Maybe not in gameplay, but as a separate "minigame".

And hey, people requesting better story: at least developers honestly admitted that story in Borderlands sucks. What did you expect from a campfire story told to some kids by an arms dealer? By the way, in the opening of the first DLC, Marcus really begins to phone it in.

I guess I'm one of the few people who doesn't really want much of a story.

Sure, they could write it a little better, but the aspect of having it as an excuse to go blow shit up is nothing I'm against. It felt a bit like an MMORPG that was single player.

And I liked that very much. The game was awesome.

I would enjoy better missions. The ones involving killing things were fun, but there were too many "find this, fetch that, sweep the floor, do the washing, yadyyadyyaydyyah...." bleurgh! This would be made so much easier with a coherent and enjoyable storyline, as others have mentioned, and then would lead to a satisfying and enjoyable ending.

Didn't anyone else feel little ripped off by Borderlands' ending? There I was, all: "yay, I have killed this otherworldly beast" and then... the end? Really? Did I not find it or is there a second hidden "real" end?

If not, could we do that for Borderlands 2?

They need to keep Mordecai he is by far my favourite. Fun to play and a crazy personality. Maybe balance the vehicles a bit more, fights became a joke when you could just run anything over.

Procedural missions, procedural missions, procedural missions...
That's about it, I liked it otherwise.

I was expecting a Fallout 3 clone but all I got were near-deserted towns and a large landscape where everything and everyone was trying to murder me. That wasn't such a bad thing: It was actually pretty sweet. I just wish the Skeksis at of the gaming industry would hurry up and die off so as to restore the color once present in video games. That game had a lot of potential to be wacky and that isn't a bad thing...

I wasn't suggesting Borderlands was bad because it lacked one. I very much enjoyed it, it would be the only improvement that I could think would make a new sequel. The game-play itself I don't think they could change or improve enough to need a new game for.

A little, but due to it not having a particularly strong story in the first place it didn't bug me all that much. I just loaded up a second play-through.

To be honest it doesn't need one. It's just that I really like story driven games, and the idea behind Borderlands could easily include a very good one if so desired. If nothing else, it would give more variety to missions.

My favorite thing about the first one was how well the co-op worked I didn't really feel any problems with the Co-op but I just think they should improve it a lot more and keep it
Split-Screen and I think they really need to tell a better story and I liked the art style but I liked it more for how it was originally gonna look like. But I it was a good game it just didn't immerse you into the world as well as I think it could have.

Yeah, story. Only that. And even more guns. And more ways to develop your characters... 3 skill trees is so 2000. Oh, and level limit 99.

So basically, Diablo 2 with Borderland setting and gameplay.

I think it needs a single player mode.

I didn't think the co-op was fantastic, split screen was terrible and you couldn't get by online without a level 200 offering to play the game for you, but it should at least be supported by decent single player.

More variation in quests and environments, also more guns, because I felt the first one could have used with some more guns

This, I would love to be able to construct my own gun.
