They are both on steam sale right now. I've never played either, but I know they are somewhat popular.

I'm generally into story games, but i'm willing to give these a try if the combat is fun

What do you guys think?

edit: and recommend some good story games if you know any ;-)

I think you are confused its the first one that's 7$ still a good game though. I have 300+ hours on borderlands 2 so I'll just let that speak for itself. I love that game.

Um a suggestion huh? the wolf amongst us is the cheapest it's ever been and is a great story driven experience.

Dark Souls 2 isn't on sale, Dark Souls 1 is. And yes, it's definitely worth $6, but only if you have a controller, and if you're willing to put a little work into modding it. Just know that if you go into the game with the wrong mindset, you will get incredibly frustrated and probably quit. It's not an easy game, but for the most part it's a very fair game, and every time you die should be a learning experience. If you can't get into that then you'll probably be flushing $6 done the drain because you won't finish it.

As far as borderlands 2 is concerned, it's a great game if you have someone to coop with all the way through it. It's a lot of fun to play with friends, but only if there's no level disparity and it's a lot better if all of you are going through it together for the first time. I'd say that playing it alone isn't worth it, and this is from someone who has beaten it on every difficulty multiple times and has multiple max level characters.

But yes, both games are definitely worth owning and playing. Whether you'll enjoy them as much as I have will probably depend on what mindset you go into each one with.

If dark souls 2 were 6 bucks right now I'd buy the game again as a gift and then proceed to gift some more to friends, Gaben compels it.

Go for Borderlands2. It's awesome! Bought it as well shortly before the Summersale (d'oh) and it has become one of those games I can keep playing constantly and/or casually. always installed on the HD. Soooo fun and the lore...

I'm also really excited about tales from the borderlands!

Borderlands 2 is most certainly worth $7, although it's a game that really requires a co-op partner to get full value from.

Dark Souls 2 is not on sale. The first game is a steal at $7 if you have the mentality/fortitude to patch it and work through its warts to get to the meat.

Thanks for the responses guys. I did indeed confuse darksiders 2 with darksouls 2.

Im going to give borderlands 2 a shot based on feed back in this thread. Do I need to play borderlands 1 first or can I just jump into 2

I loved both Darksiders. A strange mix between God of War and Zelda. My main problem with the 2 games is the ending. Both of them end like Soul Reaver with a giant cliffhanger and no hope to ever get the end of the story. Otherwise they are fun even if some players find Darksiders 2 to be too long and repetitive.

I will join my vote about Borderlands 2. A very fun game, if you have the opportunity to snatch Tiny Tina Assault on Dragon Keep do it. It's one of those DLCs than justified the existence of DLCs. I will just add that the Mechromancer was by far my favorite character.

Considering I'm still playing it 1 and a half year after release (fyi, I bought it on release date) does say alot if you ask me.

While Borderlands 1 will provide a little insight on Borderlands 2, it's not necessary. Borderlands 2 will explain most the important things that happened in the first game.

It wouldn't hurt to do a small bit of research into BL1 though, such as the characters, how it ends (if you aren't planning on playing Borderlands 1).

The story in Borderlands 2 is serviceable at best - the primary draws to the game are the engine which allows for excellent run-and-gunning, the colorful characters, the rpg mechanics (loot and skill progression), and the synergy of everything working well together.

You don't need to play BL1 but the characters reappear. I recommend putting down a few bucks more and getting the GOTY edition. It has all the DLC you'll want to play (Tiny Tina, Mr. Torgue's), my favorite class and a little bit that you probably wont. But if you haven't bought it yet, I do recommend the GOTY edition.

Ignore Borderlands 1 if you are looking for story...there wasn't enough there to compel me to play at any rate. Borderlands 2, however, is great fun, has decent amount of story, and is hilarious or dramatic when it needs to be. So, IMO, get 2 and skip 1...unless you feel like waiting in case the price drops (which it may, considering the age of the game). On the other hand, if Borderlands 2 comes with all the DLC, even if it drops in price, you can't get a much better deal, especially for the price of lunch!

BL1 hardly had a story, you won't miss much. However, as some have said before, check out some info the the 4 playable characters from the first game considering they are more fleshed out in the sequel.

You don't need to play BL 1, I didn't and I enjoyed the hell out of BL 2. Some of the inside jokes will be lost on you, but those are very few IMO. The game is pretty much self contained in all the important ways, with a healthy peppering of call backs to the BL 1 for those who played both games.

I would strongly urge you to get the Assault on Dragon Keep DLC. It's great, and is an awesome capstone to the BL 2 game. Definitely play the original BL 2 game before playing around with Dragon Keep though, as it is plot sensitive and contains lots of spoilers.

Borderlands 2 is certainly worth it. There's an awful lot of content, it will keep you occupied for a while. The gameplay is incredibly addictive, the story is decent, and the characters you interact with are very entertaining. I highly recommend getting the Game of the Year edition. Most of the DLC is only so-so, but it gets you the two DLC characters who are both great (I love the Mechromancer), and Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep DLC is worth the extra cash on it's own. With the GOTY edition being so cheap, that's the version to pick up.

I would suggest buying neither and instead buying Bordelands 2: GOTY for 11.24 euros which is only about 5 euros more, not sure what that is in dollars. Of course you still would be buying Borderlands 2 thus making the first part of my comment invalid.

I'd just go straight to 2. While it does do a lot of wink-and-a-nod type stuff to the first game, and the player characters from 1 are major NPCs in 2, the story of the first is so bare bones i wouldn't worry about it.

Essentially, 4 random people come to a planet to look for a vault. They kill some dudes, and find the vault. Theres not really any nuance to it. BL2 does a fine job giving you the relevant background, and the story is much better.

I will second the recommendation of others in the thread of the GOTY edition. Tiny Tina's Assult on Dragon Keep is the single most impressive peice of DLC i've ever played for any game, and the Torgue DLC is hilarious.
