I loved the review. Which is funny, because as it happens, I do very much enjoy getting bigger and better shotguns to viscerally tear apart midgets, so this game was right up my tee.

Oh and just one thing, the driving force for playing actually meshed quite well with the story, considering the story was that you're a treasure hunter who wants shiny loot and the only reason to play is to get shinier loot... yupp.

P.s. You should be hired by the Escapist, them other peoples is right.

The whole review can be changed to this:

Diablo 2 had a baby with Left 4 Dead and gave it guns.
Ok so I get the Diablo reference but LFD really, just because it has 4 players hell halo 3 has 4 players.
It just doesn't make that much sense to me.
anyway this is all irrelevant.
Can you do the story mode in 4 players in Halo? No.

Welcome back, and what a comeback you made with that fantastic review, you should be a staff member I say.

Anyway, it really proves my worst fears about Borderlands, and I think I made a wise decision of not buying it until it's pretty cheap. I had my fill of mindless loot progression with WoW. Given, Borderlands gives you direct control of the action, you actually shoot things yourself instead of giving your characters orders ala WoW. That might make grinding less annoying, but it's still not my favourite gameplay mechanic. That combined with the horrible multi-player system (surprised you left that untouched in your review) made me politely turn down Borderlands. I'll stick to L4D/L4D2 for my mindless FPS action.

It appears as though I am one of the few users who frequent the user reviews section who has not previously encountered your work, which is a shame, for this is certainly is one of the more well-rounded and articulate of reviews that I have read before.

I had Borderlands lined up as my next major purchase following the conclusion of my exams, but it seems as though I am feeling increasingly less inclined to buy it having read numerous negative reviews on the subject. Not that yours is an exclusively negative depiction of Borderlands, it's just that the particular aspects of the game which you found positive enough to outweigh the unfavourable kind are, in my mind, not enough to justify the purchase. Still, it has far from escaped my intentions, and the praise it has received is no less bolstering of my confidence.

A most enjoyable, if somewhat voluminous, read. I thank you for writing this, and look forward to more of your reviews. Also, congratulations on earning your degree thingummy.

computer game reviews scrawled on toilet walls don't work very well.
If there were more game reviews scrawled on toilet walls, the world would be a better place for all mankind.

...actually yeah you can http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/31/its-official-halo-3-has-four-player-online-co-op/ and its old news, there's even an achievement for playing the last level of story mode with 4 players, called like vidmaster:iron.

Thanks, kind people of the Escapist forum. All advice has been taken onboard and processed, and hopefully the next review will be a bit more...well, whatever. Chirpy, maybe. Certainly less frowny, if possible.

It's Dragon Age next, but it's going to be a while. Hopefully I'll have some thoughts on it by the time all the other Dragon Age reviews start dropping in over the next week. Early impressions are positive.

He is Oscar, I am Fyodor.

Crime and Punishment has the worst ending ever, even if the point it tries to make it pure gold.

Christ buggery, this brings back memories.

Tip-top review too, as foretold in the ancient Mayan prophecy.
