For people who don't know what to expect, here's (as far as I know) the only gameplay video released so far:

Borderlands E3 2008 Presentation [http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=VOwjobQv-AA]

And yes, I'm totally stoked about this game. Assloads of guns, customizable everything, Unreal Engine, Sci-Fi wasteland setting, it's like they set out to create a game with the sole purpose of giving me an electro-boner.
Based on that presentation, this game, without a doubt will rule.
This.

... wow, this looks awesome. I wonder if my shitty pc can run it.

Honestly though? It looks more like Deus Ex and Mad Max then Diablo and Mad Max. Or Deus Ex + Hellgate + Madmax.

Holy shit this looks awesome.

This looks addicting but im not looking forward to it - in general random generation shouldnt consume a game because it'll rip it of any character.

Btw the 500,000 weapons thing is a bit iffy, lets say

5 weapon classes
x
5 base guns for each
X
10 types of ammo (lightning etc, shown in demo)
x
10 slot 1 attatchments (scope etc)
x
10 slot 2 (underside - nade launcher etc)
x
5 barrel attatchments (silencer, baonet etc)
x
5 clip varients (again, shown)
x
2 stocks
x
2 fire modes
x
2.. err... [random augment]s

= 500,000

Point being that when you break down a big number like that it becomes far less exciting, and hell i didnt even factor in alternate fire.

Im just not sure why this appeals, its like (in fact, idectical to) getting thousands of random car parts and hoping it forms something half decent rather than getting an expert to craft one for you.

Aside from the dungen-crawler-type weapons and such the environment looks downright dull, the mechanics arn't up to the standard of some of the better shooters i own, the driving looks bad, the sounds are unsatisfying and it seems to have gien story and characters a backseat. But hell, thats being verry presumpious, its still early in development and they obviously havnt shown off much. But still, its my 2¢.

That video looked bad to the ass. Weapon variety, decent vehicles, and an open world eh? Looks like I'm giving it a rent at the very least.

I hope the story is good!

The weapons are procedurally generated, kind of like the enviornments and opposing species in spore.

I to be honest thought it was red faction:guerilla when I saw it, and that did help my opinion of this game.

GIVE ME THIS GAME NOW PLEASE!!!

I'm terribly sorry for the CAPS outburst, but after reading the wiki page and watching the trailer I passed out. If this game becomes what it says it's going to be...MY GOD the world is not ready.

.. Um.. Ok.. Care to elaborate on that because that term does not carry a specific description on exactly what has to happen. If this game used procedural generation in its truest form then 1) 500k is a tiny number and 2) there would be FAR less similarity between the weapons shown in the gameplay demo Fightbulb posted up there ^. Untill a game gives me a reason to praise it for a mechanic i shan't, i feel like they're almost using that as a buzzword now.

I've been following it but I'm not greatly anticipating it. the whole random level and gun creation thing usually ends up annoying/glitching frequently and get's repetitive where it's been used before. also I like a bit more customisation in RPGs.
