I think you heard about the subscription from the voices in your head because, as a completely sane person, I can say that there are no subscription fees attached to Borderlands.
I'm pretty sure there is a subscription fee. I think I heard about it either on Steam or the official website. I'm gonna check it out a second time.

:EDIT: Hmmm, guess not. Must have been some other game that is coming out in 2009. Still, I'll wait till a friend gets it to see how good it is. It looks like Mass Effect + Fallout 3.

yes really, in most interviews gearbox stated that the duels were a very minor thing and had no real bearing on the rest of the game, if you look most of the tallents are based on buffing the group and such, this is not going to be a pvp game, there is no need to ruin the game by making sure every class is completely balanced to the others.

I have a question (Hijack'd!)
To play four-player co-op on Borderlands can I just find a team online or do I have to... you know... have friends?

Randy Pitchford is a true hero.

I'd like to get Borderlands, but I'm kind of apprehensive, as I've heard multiplayer will be a big part in the game, and I don't have XBL/Gamer Friends.

The entire game can be played with single-player. The coop-multiplayer is just there to add more enjoyment and share the experience with friends.

I liked it until it changed its art style now looks like a cartoon instead of an open world of bandits also I expect one of the sound effects to be boing
So you preferred it when it looked generic and did the same thing every other FPS does? Fair enough.

I know cel shading isn't the newest discovery, but it switching put on my to-buy list.

It has drop in, providing someone has "anyone can join" ... anyone can join I guess.

It's more of an addition than a necessity. Think RE5 - co op was possible, but definitely not needed.

I'm glad I posted this now, if only to alert more people to the splendour of Borderlands.

Hmm...

I might just have to scrounge up the change to get this along with Dragon Age: Origins and Modern Warfare 2.
