Borderlands: Is there such a thing as the Ultimate weapon?

What weapon do people find effective against these:

Spiderants
Guardians

I find both tend to soak up a shitload of bullets on playthrough 2, leaving me with little or no ammo leftover for my next battle.

I have a x4 lightning SMG and it seems to do fuck all damage to the guardian shields.

For Guardians anything that deals shock damage is a godsend, or alternatively if you're using Mordecai his last Sniper skill is Bypass, which when upgraded to full allows you to completely ignore shields.

For Spiderants, I'd say a high damage weapon like a sniper or shotgun to daze them, although I find its just as easy to strafe around behind them.
Also It might be different if you're playing by yourself or not, Ive only done Playthrough 2 with a friend and we pretty much only used skills and class mods that complemented both of us.

OT: Double Anarchy. They shoot something like 40 bullets per second in a game where the average gun shoots 5-10 bullets per second.

Well, you are neglecting to point out that each class has a weapon focus in their skill points. There might be a best for each class individually, but not one for all four of them.

The soldier guy's best weapon would definitely be a shotgun. Preferably one with a small spread, though it's hard to find one with a small spread that doesn't do awful damage. Carrying around a second one with awful spread and 12 pellets for closer range stuff is cool too though.

I've not had an "ultimate" gun drop in Borderlands, I've played through 4 times too. Twice on split screen co-op and twice on my own. On one of my split screen play throughs where I was Lilith I did find some crazy SMG for around level 19ish which had mental acid damage, a really good fire rate, very accurate and a standard scope on it. I used it all the way into the early 40's when it eventually became a bit crap.

My L61 Lillith uses this:

Boring, sure, but it works.
~1476 RPM, 145x4 damage(+44% from class mod) with regenerating ammo from a mercenary class mod. I never have to use any other weapon.

Any peralescent is BA, But heres the list of BA guns.

Pearl ogre
Hellfire
defiler
bulldog
Any dbl mod thanatos

Just go kill the cramerax a few hundred times a day with +2 team rare item find mod and you will find the BA gear. The sirin is best at soloing the beast, just phasewalk and go hide in that left corner.

All you got to do is peak yourself out to move him where you want him. When you have to get his back Just move out a bit till he gets close do not stand up stay crouched.

He will eventually jump back in the ground and move out and come up backwards for you to take his back out, you want a sniper rifle with high damage and 200+ critical hit damage.

I solo the cramerax all day long and have found the best gear ever seen on pandora.
