Geez, and before the game came out everyone said Zero was overpowered.

Zero is overpowered. Sniping in this game is sick. There are, however, situations where sniping is not viable and he is human in those.

I snipe a little with Zero, but I have all my skill points invested in melee (think it is the Bloodshed tree?).

My friend does that. He says he hits for sick damage. My Zero is only around 20 or so, I went sniper spec and I have yet to meet a boss or badass that I couldn't kill in three shots max. They usually die in 2.

Yeah melee is bad ass. I started a ne game to play with my friend and him being the asshole he is brought his lvl 50 Zero and he got a 3 million non-critical damage on an enemy.
