Hello.

So the other day, I was looking for the type of earplugs I normally buy in my local Target. They're beige and usually come in a blue box. In their place I was surprised to find these [http://sleepinpink.com/].

I do a natural WTF-take and triple check the aisle in case I had missed the regular brand I buy. Nope. Ladies earplugs. If you want comfort in noise pollution-cutting technology, this is your only option. Pink fucking earplugs.

Am I missing something, or is this not completely retarded? Seriously. Of all things, why are you marketing EARPLUGS to women? And it's not like they have flowers or hearts or hannah montana all over them, they're just pink. It's not even like I'm offended because I'm a woman. I'm offended by the sheer stupidity of it. Is their revenue gonna skyrocket now that they switched from beige to pink? Were girls hurting for pink earplugs before now?

Alright, somthing a bit less stupid: dog-tags. It's a little thing, but it still irks me. I consider anyone who wears them to be repping the military in a small way, but when you wear them just to look cool, I just personally think it's demeaning to those actually from a military background. I shake my head in shame when I see somebody like Lindsay Lohan walking down the street with some on, among other reasons.

Well, that's my rant.

And yes, I bought them.

a similar thing happened with black-gel headphones. they got replaced with a cheaper hot pink variety for some reason.

so, like a real man, i bought them and put them in my MP3 player and saved a couple bucks.

I got the light green ones. I do wish they had some darker colors though.

Brilliant!! Remember the Talkboy from Home Alone? I'm pretty sure they just made it pink and called it a "Talkgirl." Priceless.

Demographically targetted crap, based on stereotypes, prejudice and a worrying lack of common sense... is there anywhere you can't find it...?

Seconded.

Pure genius...

On to what I thought this thread would be about... I really think that clothiers should make up their minds about whether or not they are trying to show off a woman's breasts. I mean, some things these days are just barely hiding the nipples, and I ask myself, "how is this appropriate for anywhere apart from someone's bedroom or similar?" I'm not saying I don't like breasts, but it seems strange to me that as long as the nipples aren't visible, it's not considered taboo or what-have-ye. I may be wrong, there may be some unspoken "40% of the breast or less" rule that's hardly ever broken, but if so, I don't know about it.

Dude, just go the sporting goods section. You can likely find some with the hunting supplies. Likely yellow or orange.

Some juvenile part of my mind starts up when I think of people putting skin-colored phallic foam in their ear.

But earplugs? Not socks. Not a toothbrush. Earplugs. I mean, WTF.

I just went back to the site and saw they have an instructional flash video. For earplugs.

Hi-larious.

On the same theme as ladies earplugs; Ladies razors. They work exactly the same as a mans razor, just more expensive. To which I say; "The Fuck?"

It's really just another of the multitude of minute components in our lives, in this case existing as an antidote to factors produced by other components, such as neighbors' boomboxes, construction workers' jackhammers and so forth. They're are all part of the mishmash mess we call a modern life, and there is always someone pathetic enough to try to sell a slightly altered version of something that already exists in a perfectly acceptable state under some made-up premise that no sane person would believe... not that I'd wanna live out in the forest like some hippy, in all the mud and computerlessness. I'm just saying we humans aren't done developing our lifestyles into something that might actually be presentable to any actual alien races that may or may not be out there. <.<

And that marketing/advertising dudes are scum. >.>

Well, I've certainly never woken myself up...

But yeh, womans earplugs. I didn't know woman had the kind of ears that required a kind of earplug specifically designed for woman, but there it is then. But of course they will, provided there's a possible profit in it...

? No they don't. If a woman borrows your male razor (even like once) then it'll be blunt when you get it back.

I mean, the most likely cause (besides loud music) for women to wear earplugs is to shut out the noise of the guy sleeping next to them. In the former situation they are often provided free, so why not target some demographics for the latter? It's not like the men can hear themselves!

Of course they do, but go compare the noise level from my dad with the noise level from my mum, and you go decide which is the more bearable. There's always exceptions, but for the most part the men are the ones renowned for sounding like a spluttering chainsaw when they sleep.

Even if that isn't true, the very fact I'm presenting this stereotype(As it seems to be in your view) as common knowledge shows that it doesn't even matter. If most people think it's true it'll make them money, and that's how they roll.
