Ah yes, boss music. Igniting the final showdown, the beat that pumps in your head as you slowly wear away that Health Bar that just never seems end (With the exception of Fable 2 of course), the rhythm you use too keep your fighting spirit strong, One of the things you most remember from the boss fight. Never mind the cheap tactics he used, never mind his seemingly endless combos that come one after another, never mind the strange background as you warp through dimensions fighting the scourge of the universe. This, the music is what will stick in your head.
Boss Music isn't just there to sound nice while you shoot the giant alien filling your screen. Its there to set an atmosphere of the battle, bring an sense of epicness as you fight your final battle, keep you fighting for whatever reason you are. Without good music in the background any boss battle just becomes forgettable, Hell I wouldn't even remember the ending to Super Paper Mario if it wasn't for the Ultimate Show. So yes discuss the importance of boss music to bringing a satisfying conclusion. And because I can see this thread dribbling down to nothing more than post your favorite boss music, Why don't I start?

You know, if you didn't want this to turn into "post your favorite boss music" you could have given us something to actually discuss rather than creating a decently written piece on boss music.

Best final boss music ever.

Here's some honorable mentions.

The reason this one is great is because it fits the context of what's going on so well. Rather than being a straightforward affair, it's distorted and chaotic, much like the boss fight itself.

Mother 3 always excelled in the audio area.
Not to mention in the later sections of the fight, the text flows just so delicately with the music. Slowing down for a dramatic line, and so forth.
I have to agree with this choice, 110%.

Edit: Sorry for the double post.

I just love this theme from MP2: Echoes. Probably my favourite. But then again, I love all the boss music from Metroid...

Great track that builds tension and sets the atmosphere. Also by Coldcut who I listen to anyway. It's a shame that so many people only seem to remember area 5 and the fear track from this game, buncha nerds.

I would sometimes dick around in the boss/mini-boss fights just to be able to listen to the music for longer.

Wind Waker was a triumph.
You think that's awesome? Try listening to the miniboss fight music when your health is low. To me, the music sounds better when it's faster.

It was a hard decision between this and the music to the General Guy boss.

Obviously this was what won. Crystal King for the win.

Finally someone else who sees it! All those people calling WW a failure make me cry, and yes I usually stretched those fights too just to hear that music.

The above posted Metroid Prime boss fight music is pretty memorable as well, all Metroid music is, mostly because most bosses made me go "OSHITOSHITOSHIT!!!" Especially the dreaded Omega Pirate, his track [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm8qiN1Uw9c&feature=related] made me even more scared.

PS: How could I forget! Especially after that WW video, I should've thought of the Molgera fight. It's such a love-it-or-hate-it song, and as far as I'm concerned I belong to the love side:

The four elemental lords music from FF4 has always been one of the most brilliant pieces of boss music to me. So much energy, suspense, and such an epic feeling. That and the dreadful fight from FF6 (music that plays when you fight Atma) are just epic.
