Would you hate me if I said that's not even the most annoying boss in the game?I had to quit A Link to The Past for a while because of the boss of Misery Mire.
That's a very fair choice, too. Damn eye-monster thing that takes off about three hearts at every touch.

I had a terrible time against Ganon, too. I hadn't picked up the Golden Sword/ arrows, because the damn game doesn't tell you that you need them to harm him...

Though I had a great deal of difficulty on that bugger, for some reason, it didn't annoy me- still one of my favourite boss battles.

I found Yunalesca and even the Chocobo Easter more frustrating, somehow.

f I did'nt have knowledge of Ganon's weakness to Silver Arrows then I would have never beaten the game.Though there is supposed to be a way you can beat him with several charged spin attacks and regular arrows.
I kept trying to kill him with spin attacks alone, since I was unaware of the equipment. I got to the third stage (when the lights go out) a few times, but it's just infinitely harder.

If it is, yep, I stopped there too. I hadn't done enough grinding, and was left screwed at this point!
Yep, same here. I only got back and finished the game a year later.

Elder Wyrm in FFXII was similar for me. Spamming status effects like nobody's business. It was a definite jump up in difficulty for me. I did get back to that one sooner though and FFXII is still my favorite Final Fantasy game.

Edit: Oh, another even worse one. Go back to Besaid Village, they said. Get Energy Blast, they said. Dark Valefor, they didn't bother mentioning! Jesus Christ!

A little off topic.. When my wife was new to video games one of the first she started with was American McGee's Alice. She was so frustrated with it and so angry and eventually asked me to help her with the Mad Hatter. She was incredibly surprised when I switched weapons from the knife and asked how I did that. Apparently she had gone through half the game using only the knife. I wasn't sure whether to cringe or clap.

Either Bloodbane or Iseria Queen from Valkyrie Profile Lenneth. By the earth mother, I hate those two. They dish out tons of damage and seems to laugh, not matter how hard you hit them. Even if Bloodbane is only accesable in the A-ending dungeon and Iseria Queen is in the bonus, post-game dungeon, I still find them irritatingly hard to fight.
Also, Oozma from Final Fantasy IX desevres and honorable mention. "Oh, you want to hit me? Let me use my strongest attack as soon as the battle start!" Give that...thing a douche medal.

EDIT: Almost forgott: Azazel from Tekken 6. F-U-C-K him...she...it.

This boss-

While the whole boss fight itself is intimidating to say the least (big dragon on a volcano!) but since Alatreon is an online boss only it means you can hardly prepared yourself by praticing fighting it via story mode.

Combining this and being in a party with experience people who want its loot (has the most powerful weapons and strongest armour in the game), you cannot help to be the noob therefore being the number one blame when it failed (anyone died for the third time is an game over).

I had only fought it two or three time and I was super lucky enough to get its rare loots needed to make the lance and shield (my prefered weapon) so I was compent with what I had so I stop hunting it altogether.

Any boss fight in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, not a single one of them has any redeeming qualities whatsoever. The rest of the game was great, but the boss fights were awful.

I never went back to it. There was potential for a decent game in there, but I couldn't get past Wakka, the laughing scene......and all that 'Praise be to Yevon' bullshit!

Still looking for the best 'proper' turn-based FF. Sod it, I might just re-buy FFVII!!

Final boss in Ninja Gaiden for the NES.
To make it worse: Normally in that game, if you die you can start at the beginning of the level again. Not so if you lose on the final boss. If I remember correctly you get pushed back 2 whole levels, but I'm not sure, as it's been a long time. I remember it being a lot harsher than the other bosses in the game, at least. (and it's not like the game was all that easy up to then either).

Mike Tyson in Punch Out!!. I know he can be beaten, but I just... can't. I've been trying for something in the neighbourhood of 25 years (not constantly, obviously - I'm not obsessed).
Ok, so that ones doesn't actually qualify, since I haven't given up yet. ;)

There was another boss in Blue Shadow (another ninja game for the NES). I don't even remember exactly what it did, except that it was nearly as fast as Mike Tyson (see above), and I seem to remember you having to jump over him constantly. That one really made me give up. It made me give up so hard I don't even remember it.

Seth from Street Fighter IV. I suck at fighting games, plain and simple. But I can usually power through the storyline, especially on easy. Not so here. Cheating character with cheating AI. Plain and simple.
Mah Boi, if you think that Seth is hard, then I wish to see your face during the fight with any of the King of Fighters bosses.
Speaking of which, my choice would be Rugal from King of Fighters series
I could NEVER defeat him without using other boss characters.
I did, in '98, using Athena, King and... I don't actually remember. Probably Ryo. It always felt like luck, though. I could never consistenly beat him, I just went full offensive and hoped for the best. Only really works if you're prepared to put in a few tokens, since you'll rarely beat him on the first try. So I guess it's a bit like cheating.
Anyway, know what you mean. Sooo annoying, that Rugal (seems like it should've been transliterated at Luger, doesn't it?).

Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts in general. I couldn't tell you which version is the most difficult, if KH1 or KH2. I got my ass handed to me on both occations until I figured out a way to win the fight. It's possible KH2's is easier because Sora I feel is generally more powerful in that game.

Reminds me of the time I introduced Spore to my mother.
A week later, she asked me what to do next, since she couldn't find anymore to do.
Turns out that she was in the Creature stage, where she'd collected every single, damn body part(even from the fun'n'creepy or whatever dlc) and made friends with ALL the other species on the planet... All without "upgrading" her species even once. She was still worming around on the starter creature without any legs or arms!

Dunno if I had any boss moments myself.
There was this time when I'd reached the final boss in Titan Quest using a Ranger/Druid sort of build. Two wolves and a dryad would do the combat while I stayed back to heal, buff and provide a little ranged dps.
Had worked perfectly right up to the endboss, who'd one-shot kill my pets faster than I could summon them.
Came back much later to finally finish the game. Eventually, I had to completely rededesign my build into a kiting glass-cannon nuker.

The battle in Ninja Gaiden where you fight 2 tanks then have to fight the attack helicopter straight after. I beat the tanks and when the heli showed up i just said fuck this, i'm a ninja not Rambo and gave my friend it straight back. The game made little sense to begin with but when modern weapons were being thrown against me, my sword and my crossbow i had played enough.
Ironically, the helicopter was MUCH easier than the tanks. It had easier to dodge attacks and bigger windows to exploit.

Mysterious Figure from Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. That guy has such high strength that most hits (as in, 9/10) will put you to 1 HP or outright kill you if you don't have Second Chance and Once More. He also has two attacks that bypass those safeguards (one affectionately known has the rape rope), and he has an insane attack speed and so many moves... including Vanish, which makes him invisible for a good while.

There's also Yazmat from FF XII. The guy has about 50 million HP in a game where unless you use a specific attack, the max damage you can do is 9999 (and even then, after losing about half his health, he uses an ability to make that max damage 6999, taking even freaking longer). He's not that hard, but you need to have a lot of time when fighting the guy (took me over 3 hours non stop the one time I beat him). Never again. And yes, I know I can leave and come back later, but the longer you're gone, the more health he regenerates, up to his maximum.

Babel from Devil Survivor.

Seriously, I still haven't beaten the game because of that freaking thing. Seriously, I had to fight $%^&ing Belberith before it. Seriously, it can hit you from anywhere on the map. Seriously, it has over 6000 hit points if you combine both its first and second forms. I still can't do it now even after getting Overclocked and trying to get to it again, with renewed determination from the prospect of there being more story after it, and I can't even harden my constitution enough to beat Belberith again! On easy! It's like I have post traumatic stress disorder or something because of that thing!

I also remember having that reaction when I first saw Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts. I honestly didn't know who he was because I'd never played Final Fantasy 7 before (I have now) but even without knowing who he was I could feel a sense of dread and hopelessness come over me. Same thing with Brian Zisa too.

Sure I've been able to beat those two now, but back then they were just overwhelming.
