Are there any games where you still haven't got past a certain boss? Or if not, what's the longest you've ever spent trying to beat one?

I can't beat the Ancient Dragon in Dark Souls 2... and the Ruin Sentinels took me like a whole day. I think I'm stuck on one of the bosses in a DBZ game too :|

Boss of the first Dark World dungeon in Link to the Past. Didn't know you could use bombs on him to defeat him easily. I get really stupid moments sometimes. I beat that boss a couple months ago, and I beat Link to the Past a few days ago. Haha, childhood dream complete, I guess. So I guess I was stuck on that boss for about a year.

I've had Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix Plus ever since it came out in 2007 (got it a few months after) and to this day I've not beaten the Enigmatic Soldier on Proud Mode...what's even worse is I'm gonna have to seeing as I have to LP that game eventually. XD

As for bosses that took me forever, and assuming Super Bosses count, Yiazmat is a long ass battle that's for sure. I think the fastest speed run of it is 1 hour or so.

Another boss that took forever was Garp from Unlimited Cruise Episode 2. Garp is the Super Boss of the game and is no joke, as just to get to him you have to fight through an army of Pacifistas. I got extremely lucky with Sanji against Garp and was able to kill him after about 30 minutes, and after he had effectively destroyed the rest of the crew. If he did his special though then that would have ended me.

The last boss in Warhammer 40k: Space Marine is still unbeaten on my 'Normal' mode.

That stupid 'you can only grab to hurt' boss in ZOE2.

I've spent the last few weeks bitching about this but people just keep asking about it (like everything on the internet, I assume it was made just for me for the world revolves around me).

I've been completely bi-polar about this game and right now I'm on the "Fuck this game" side of the coin. Devil Survivor Overclocked and this fat fuck:

Seriously, I have zero clue what to do about it (even with help from people on this very forum; special thanks to Tizzy!)

This fight is what I imagine hell is like for gamers. You start with the giant boss in the back area who can hit you from anywhere. He gets (minimum) two shots on you and can routinely wipe your characters out with them (you get four of them). He also has a bunch of minions in front who are also a giant pain in the ass to fight. Once they are killed, they drop their comps and summon MORE minions for you to fight because the game hates you and needs to express this the best way it can.

I haven't even GOTTEN to that fat bastard yet and I can't win this fight. What's going to happen when I actually get into a fist fight with that thing? All I've been doing now is grinding away to get monsters that are specifically strong against the attacks he has (because you know that's what makes a great tactical game is when you just have to cheat to beat it) and I'm going to keep at it until I either take him down or the cartridge unexpectedly gets launched out of my 3DS and accidentally crushed into a thousand pieces with a hammer; one or the other.

It took me a few months practicing the final level of Castlevania 3 on-and-off (really just a couple hours every few weeks, but I took long breaks inbetween to keep from getting bored or frustrated) to finally beat Dracula. Since you start at the beginning of the level when you run out of lives. Which I've found actually helps you because it lets you pick up the axe every time, so once you've mastered Drac's first 2 forms you can take out his 3rd form quickly with the axes.

I've still not beaten the final boss of Ys 2 because every time I go back to try I have to sit through a painfully long cutscene, by the end of which I usually don't feel like doing it anymore.

The longest it ever took me was the final Bowser in Super Mario 64. I was about eight when I first played the game, and for some reason, that fight was just really hard and took me weeks to beat. I've since gone back to play the game again (when I was about twenty), and I beat it my first try. I guess I really just sucked as a kid.

A close second is the Moonlight Butterfly from Dark Souls. It's like that boss was specially designed to exploit everything I put all my points into up until that point. It was also the first boss to give me trouble, so that was a plus, considering I was feeling a little let down by that point that the bosses were all too easy.

Well I'll never beat Sigma in Mega Man X7 (played in 2004), but that's mainly because I hate the game and don't want to try any more.

SaGa Frontier has some rather crazy bosses in general, and I know it was at least several YEARS between the time I was able to beat the first 6 final bosses and the time I was able to defeat the Ring Lord Virgil (who isn't the final boss of Riki's quest, but he may as well be since he's considerably tougher than the real final boss). This is because he functions completely differently from any other boss.

Brace yourself... He can't be killed. He can only be appeased if you perform enough consistent high level combos to entertain him while he attacks you (using healing magic makes him lose almost all his happiness, as does repeating the same combo). Several other optional bosses are more conventional but nearly as brutal such as Suzaku, Giant, and Pandora.

In fact this seems to be a trend of the whole series. Agron, Xagor, and Arsenal in the Game Boy SaGa games are all capable of stalling someone's progress for quite a while even if you're maxed out on stats. Agron, at least, stalled me for at least six months. Ironic that an Elder God would kill you with Holy magic.

I got Level 99 and the ultima weapon in Kingdom Hearts, but for the life of me I could never beat Sephiroth. That stupid sin harvest ability always got me--it'd instantly drain your HP to 1 no matter what, and then you have like half a second before he comes to deliver the final blow. It's just NOT POSSIBLE to heal that fast, I tell you! I'm also not sure if I ever beat Kurt Ziza or the Phantom at Never Land...I think I beat one of them but can't remember which. I think it was the Phantom.

The Siren in Bioshock Infinite. so my first playthrough of that game was on hard mode(because people say hard mode is really normal mode these days?) and boy did the game let me know it when I got to that fight...god fucking damn it did it ever!!

It caused me to rage, throw my controllers, shout and eventually just tire myself out and run far away from a game that I was truly was head over heels in love with for an entire year... I did finally come back this Feb and Thank god! I found a very helpful exploit online where you just plant all your explosive mines at her spawn points and well it's hilarious really. Seriously though fuck that boss fight.

Leonard from Silent Hill 3 took me ages to finally beat. On my first playthrough I was crap at conservation so I had nothing but a melee weapon to fight him. Had to restart the whole game. He was really easy when I had ammo.

The final boss in prototype the fight is so annoying. Firstly the military will fire on the abomination while your within a certain proximity to hti(to no apparent effect, however as soon as you get breathing room from him the military switch their full focus to you. the first point make trying to skyjack a copter to try to missile the prick to death both the military and the abomination focus fire the chopper during the highjack QE which means the chopper is one hit from death by the time you get control.

Lastly he spams the super attacks when you stay within short to medium distance. your only defense against this is A do your own super for invincibility frames or try desperately to dodge it in time.

I never beat this dude i just rage quit, sold the game at GS, and watched the ending on youtube. Thank god Prototype 2's final boss battle didn't suck nearly as hard

I have never gotten past the Spider Guardian in Metroid Prime 2. This is especially annoying because all the cool powerups (powerbombs, annihilator beam, etc.) come after him. *grumble* stupid electrified pillbug.

For Sephiroth it is a pain. You have to listen for the attack because it has a period of 10 seconds for him to be casting it, and if you hit him before that then it cancel's the attack. Later the in the battle he stops voicing that attack, but if you lock onto him then you can hit him in time. Using Strike Raid helps in reaching him as you are in an invicibility frame when using that move. If he does get the move off he'll always teleport behind you so you need to dodge roll out of the way and use an Elixer because Sin Harvest depletes all your magic as well.

The most annoying one for me is the first boss in Deus Ex: Human Revolution

It's probably not impossible, but after a couple of hours of getting nowhere, I gave up, mainly because it was so out of place in the game, and was so jarring after what went before.

I've since heard that boss is easy compared with the later ones, so it be a while before I restart the game, and try to complete it.

The hardest boss, at least the one i took the longest to defeat, was my doppelgänger in the original Prince of Persia. I didn't know what to do for weeks. then finally by accident i jumped into him and merged with him. which resolved the boss fight. :)

Grunty at the end of Banjo Kazooie is just stupid. The controls are made for platforming and suddenly it expects you to do all these flying third person shooting fast movement stuff. It just doesn't work and is balls in general.

I stil haven't beaten her. I just kind of rage quit and started on Banjo Tooie.

The rest of the game is amazing, and even the fight itself would be fun if it weren't for the controls.

Other than that I remember Metroid Prime, Quadraxis, and Emporer Ing from the Metroid Prime Trilogy being pretty difficult the first time through. They all had me stuck on them for a long time.

Omega pirate too to a lesser extent. The controls weren't bad or anything, they were just hard. Even after knowing their patterns.

The key that you slowly learn throughout the prime trilogy is to strategically know when to get the health opportunities. The game makes you feel pressured to beat the boss or rush to refill your health, but you have to take it calmly and choose the right time.

And never ignore the minions that show up. They're the biggest source of health loss.

Jaguar Javier in Guacamelee.

Fuck that guy, man. The game ramps the difficulty of this fight up to eleven after the relatively simple fights for the previous few hours. He's fast, he counters all your moves and shields himself while switching dimensions and he has no pattern that I can discern, unlike everyone else. You barely have enough time to hit him once before he shows you the underside of his boot. I fought him 10 times before saying 'Nope! Done!' and moved on. Hell, I would say Yelena Federova from DXHR is easier than that sunnuvabish. I loved Guacamelee but damn can Jaguar suck a big one. He's probably very easy once you get him down, but damn if I can do it.

I can't remember a boss I couldn't beat, so on the longest thing, discounting MMOs (because those really take the cake and there certainly are a few there I couldn't kill, but that comes down to teamwork), first two that come to mind are Sif the Great Grey Wolf and Knight Artorias, both from Dark Souls. The Sif one is gonna get a laugh out of a few people I imagine, but with very light armor and still not having a rock solid grasp on rolling (I was decentish, but not amazing), he cut me to pieces a few more times than I'd like to admit. I got the gist of the fight pretty quickly and knew how to beat him, but he was just jumping all over the place and running at me and it took a while to perfect the moves and get him

Knight Artorias on the other hand is one of the genuinely hardest fights in any game that I've played and I laughed my ass off fighting Kalameet (at least with Gough's arrow through him, I only realised later you could skip that thing, but I'm not sure if he's any different, I imagine he only has more health, which is not much of an issue). I was sitting with my brother playing it and we had a lot of fun with me cursing a blue streak every time he cut me down. The most amusing one being when I was at full health and he was down to 1% and I thought to myself "fuck it, one heavy attack and he's dead, I'll take one of his hits", only to watch in horror has he did a jump-flip right on my face and one-shotted me :p

..ish sho gud ^^
