Greetings fellow escapists.

As you all know game industry has always been a ruthless world where many developers and IP meet their demise due to not being able to meet the green quota. When a developer falls out of grace outcomes are usually few. They either dissolve into industry or worse yet EA. IP's however generally go through a longer process of torment before dissolving into dust. Process is know to be called milking. It is not a process exclusive to failing franchises nor gaming but its certainly more ruthless on the "has been"s of any industry. Today thanks to our technology we have even more ways to eliminate the word "dignity" from our vocabularies...

Let me show youan example i unfortunately had to witness.

Here is an example of a dead franchise whose corpse is put on exhibit..on IOS. Devoid of any depth, character let alone innovation. Funny thing is the exhibit is free. If you want to take a picture with the victim however it would cost you. Not much mind you since they don't want to scare away customers. Music is nice though if not suitable for a funeral.

So tell me fellow escapists. Do you have franchises close to your heart that have been a victim of time, neglect and corporate greed?

Captcha: the end is near... I hope so

I remember a time when Dragon Ball Z games were fun action fighting games you could have a blast with with friends.

Now... eh.

Don't let it fool you it's awful

I'm generally quite pleased with how my favorite franchises and companies are releasing games. That's after I removed Battlefield/Medal of Honor from the list of intersting stuff. Yeah, I consider them the same damn game, I really can't tell when I'm playing one or the other X3. DONTHITME!

That said my list of favorite franchises is pretty short these days... Actually, there is only two... Bethesdas Elder Scrolls, and Borderlands...

Honestly (and I'm sure I will get some crap for this) i didn't like Skyrims new and improved version of leveling up from oblivion, I felt as though 'perks' was practically a straight rip from all the fps perks now a days. I do agree that I liked having new skills to choose from but I really thought it was a down grade from the oblivion system. I know that this isn't necessarily bottom of the barrel but I see it as a sing of things to come.

Also I thought the new Golden Sun game was WAAAAAAAAAAAY to short and that they threw in a thousand new ideas and then didn't explain any of them.

Half Life. The first one was fantastic, the second was ... meh, and I think Valve is finding that the support isn't there for a third. (Yes, I'm aware that there is a rabid fanbase for it. I'm also aware it's a SMALL rabid fanbase. Sorry guys... it's over. Let it go.)

How is MegaMan a dead franchise? People loved MegaMan 10 when it came out two years ago, and a lot of the spin-offs have cult followings. Right since the beggining they've had bad games in between, but a lot of them are loved by the fans.

I don't really follow that many game franchises, except Tomb Raider. The series has had its ups and downs, but I'm utterly dreading the impending reboot, aka Uncharted 4: Women In Peril edition.

I'd like to be optimistic, but it's difficult when every word that comes out of the mouths of the developers reinforces my impression that they have no idea what the hell they're doing.

Dragon Age. And no, I don't think Bioware or EA will be redeeming themselves with Dragon Age 3

I felt that it had the same length but that the story was so choppy and directionless there was no sense paying considerable attention. We were promised a sequel though, so maybe things will be explained a bit better there.

WoW has been like watching a slow motion train wreck ever since WotLK.

And Pokemon...just damn. So many new monsters, so few new gameplay ideas.

I don't think you paid much attention to the prompt. While that is the "bottom of the barrel", that's not the ruination of a good franchise... that's a terrible rip-off that is merely its own ruination by virtue of existing.

Sorry, I assumed this counted as milking too.

I love the old Mega Man games, all the way up to the 32-bit era, but since Keiji Inafune was basically forced out of Capcom, a company that his work practically built, I have no hope for Mega Man. Seriously, reading his comments when he left the company, it sound like he was finally breaking up an abusive relationship.

As for me, Suikoden is my favorite series of all time, and the last two games have been spin-offs, the most recent unlikely to ever be released outside of Japan. Though I doubt this has to do with corporate greed so much as sheer ineptitude on the part of Konami, the Hunter S. Thomson of the game industry.

Honestly, no...

No offence, but people tend to whine too much sometimes. Or I am a lucky bastard. Or both, probably...

I cant really think of one series... I heard the Ratchet And Clank series have gone downhill HARD, but since I havent gotten to play the ever since Deadlocked (witch dosnt sucks at all like some whiner- I mean people make it out ot be. Althougt I do agree than R&C 3 is the best one). I just dont own a PS3 and I hate handheld consoles with a passion, I want they all to die in a fire.

Uh, wut?

The R&C Future series is excellent, and A Crack In Time is one of the best games to date.

OT: I think that the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm games have been shit lately.

The developers pretty much got rid of the ultimate jutsus in battle, which were arguably the best parts of the games.

I'll give the series one last chance to bring them back with UNS3, but if they don't put the ultimate jutsus back, then IT'S OVAR.

uuuhhhh

based on what? exactly? how do you know how "small" it it? I'm pretty sure there's enough interesting in HL3....hell if they had a kickstarter they's be raking in alot
