I've been playing Project M for a while now, and I've seen that Bowser is considered to be one of the lower-tiered characters. Now, I can see that with the Melee version, or the Brawl version, but I don't see why for the Project M version.

Yeah, he's slow as crap, but he has massive amounts of Super Armor frames (for the uninitiated, Super Armor is what allows Ike to ignore knockback during Aether and Eruption) in almost everything he does (heck, even his duck and crawl animations are armored). Hell, it's to the point where there's at least one competitive player I talk to (and occasionally play against) agrees with my confusion over the subject (and even to the point where he himself plays the Koopa King in Project M every so often).

For any of the competitively-minded people here, mind elaborating on why P.M. Bowser is (if you ask me) criminally overlooked as a pretty damn good fighter? (outside of his obvious sluggishness).

He is easy to combo. I Play Ganondorf in Project M and have pretty much the same issue. I can reck your ass all over the place if I hit you, but once you hit me, I am at a huge disadvantage. Bowser is similar in to him, in the sense that you don't want to get hit by him, but if you punish him, which is not really hard to do since he is that slow, you can easily do a lot of dmg. The other thing is that L-canceling is a requirement with him. sure, you have to L-cancel everything with any character, but failing that with him is much worse, because you recovery is that big.

with other words, Bowser has potential to big a big threat, but this requires a lot more control of the character than some of the more popular chars. I am not saying that other are easy to play, but A good bowser is a lot harder than a good Mario or something.

And bowser has hella predictable recovery of the stage.

Another thing is that one of his main improvements, Armor, doesn't work against grabs and most of the high tier characters have a good grabgame. They also buffed alot of projectiles compared to Melee/Brawl, which he has trouble dealing with and, again, alot of high tier characters have. Combining this with his slow fallspeed that makes him easy to combo and his generally bad options once he's up in the air, I can see why he's not higher. Placing high in a tier list doesn't just depend on how good your character is overall, how well they compete with the top is an important factor, too.

Bowser is one of those characters that seemed incredibly good at the beginning, but became worse and worse once people figure out his weaknesses.

btw, not the forum I'd ever expected to post about project m on
