It could be worse. A man brutally stabbed another man to death a while ago during an argument about how they shouldn't be arguing.

Scratch I just read the child part.

I'm not accusing you of anything here, but why are the lives of children so much more important than the lives of adults? I mean, yes, children are viewed as "innocents" and they have their whole lives ahead of them but it's not like adult victims are somehow "guilty" and don't have people, often children, depending on them.

"Think of the children!" bugs me.

I personally have no more attachment to children, I was just trying to avoid being crucified.

Damned if you do; damned if you don't. :p

Wasn't my intention to criticize you in particular, I just don't like the trend of marginalizing people's lives once they turn eighteen.

An 11 should not be taught how to use a gun. I know in certain areas people will be teaching their children to use guns at a very young age, leading to accidents like this. If your child knows how to use a gun, hide it in the best place you can, such as a locked closet, or a pit full of wolverines or something. And although the argument was over a video game, an intense argument over anything could have caused this to happen.

I do blame the placement of the weapon but not the father for teaching his son how to load a gun. Sure it may seem like a bad idea but he was going to find out one way or another.

As far as where the gun was, well all comments by liberals about firearms "safety" aside, during a home invasion the bad guys aren't going to wait to let you unlock your gun, unlock your ammo on the other side of the house, and then load your gun.

This right here is so true it hurts. And to the other comment about how guns shouldn't be allowed in homes, what am I supposed to defend myself with when a robber/murder comes into my home with HIS gun?

Why did they have a gun in their house? You don't need a gun in your house.

By the way: if I was going to rob your house, I wouldn't burst in and fight you. I'd examine the place a bit over a few days, check for visible security systems, and sneak in. If I wanted you dead I'd kill you in your sleep, but I'd be more likely just to slip in, take the goods, and slip out again.

But most robbers/murders don't think like that. They see a nice house, kick in the door with a 9MM in their hand, and shoot at whatever moves.

Well if I wanted to make a living off of thieving (and it's remarkably easy to do so; a surprising number of people on /r9k/ boost their incomes with it) I wouldn't want to get caught. Maybe the shooting and violence doesn't appeal to me so much because I don't take part in the American culture. A guy who just busts in and starts shooting probably has a motive other than material gain. Revenge, bloodlust, whatever. He wants to kill someone and make a short term gain. I'd be doing it for a living.

9 years old! He knew how to handle a gun!? This is why America should ban guns because stupid things like this happen, I'm almost 16 and I only just know which end of a gun is the buisness end let alone how to load and fire one!

Learn to blame the parents. Journalists always do this. What if the blame would be on them instead? How about journalists following a celebrity so much that it lead to her getting killed in a car crash? Oh, wait. (actually a bad example, since it actually was the paparazzi, but shut up, I'm making a point) My point is that death always needs a scapegoat, and since video games also are known to the public to make people lazy and asocial, this is prefect timing for them to call it out for it.

I think its just because once you turn 18 you're assumed to be able to cope with the consequences of your actions, though several people I know are perfect testaments against that.

This wouldn't have happened in Britain...i'm sure you can see why. Guns. Are. BAD.
Of course, we all know there's no guns in Britain this long after their crackdown on ownership, other ways in which the life of another human, child or otherwise, could be ended.

Better that the root issues still present in our nature are addressed, instead of trying to muddle things with self-deceptive propaganda and political grandstanding.

An accident due to one person's stupidity or neglegence is not a reason to disarm every law-abiding citzen within a country. Removing guns will only give those who illegaly keep them more power, and the confidence that no one can stop them (besides the police, who they most likely avoid anyways). "In the land of the disarmed, the one-gun man is king." -The Washington Times

Also; Stupid things will still happen no matter what you do. The only difference would be that gun-related accidents will go down, and non gun-related accidents will go up. Society will always find a way to achieve stupidity on this level.
