it is necesary that i bring attention to this issue by informing the gaming press about the filthy business practices of Piranha Games Inc. who have made it a habit of lying to their customers. So without further ado:

the Mechwarrior Online playerbase would appreciate it if you could help us out by bringing attention to this issue. the once-loyal, core playerbase of the game mechwarrior online is looking for any and all means to boycott the game. many people have put hundreds of dollars and hours in the game when there were "design pillars" and developers actually promised there would never be things like "pay2win" and 3rd person camera in what is supposed to be a "hardcore simulator". the very players who donated to help fund the game are asking for refunds and are even prepared to go to court over the failed delivery of what was promised as a product to them, when all the developers care about is just making a buck. if you could at least look into this; i could give you all the pertinent information.

we really need the gaming press to smear the reputation of piranha games inc (who ironically made the horrible multiplayer component of duke nukem forever) until they either back down from their money grabbing schemes or actually give refunds to all players who paid them cash.

there hasn't been a community backlash this big since Sony Online Entertainment killed their own game star wars galaxies, and i assure you this is turning into a mess of comparable magnitude.


we're talking a confirmed 5 million dollars that the playerbase has donated to the funding of the game, with the actual ammount probably being closer to 10 million dollars. (being a moderate estimate)

Seeing as how you aren't forced to play against 3rd person players if you don't want and can instead opt to only play with/against people who also use 1st person, I'd say you are drastically overreacting. MWO has its fair share of problems, but this certainly isn't one of them, at least not compared to the state of the game when I tried it out a month or two ago.

And seeing as I always preferred my Mechwarrior games to be in 3rd person, I'd say this is a good thing and I fully support it. I might even give MWO a second chance if the 3rd person mode gets implemented.

The original post of that made think your argument is simply whining. If it's possible to play against both types of cameras then what's the problem? You aren't forced to play it and you are free to stay clear of it. I hate to bring this up but this reminds me of the easy mode option of Dark Souls. You are better than this, come on.

They don't even seem outraged, just concerned.

They are all acting mature and so far I have not seen one real "OMFG ruined forever fuck you guys im leaving" type of post.

And they did say they were going to keep the matches divided, so no one would have an unfair advantage.

Beyond that small bit of rhetoric I do not have an opinion on the matter, being that I am not a mech sim player.

As I recall both Mechwarrior 3 and 4 had 3rd person views, it's hardly new to the series. Not that I ever used it, but it's been a feature in the series for a while now. Don't really see the reason this of all things would have people up in arms!

So in a nutshell, you want to smear the name of a company to force them to pay out $10,000,000 and stop trying to make a profit, but if they give into your demands and make the payment, you'll cease your efforts to ruin their reputation?

How exactly will you undo the damage caused by your smear campaign once they've paid up, and how are you going to return the millions of dollars worth of game hours you've already received and enjoyed in exchange for this refund?

Also, once you've made them pay $10,000,000 and forced them to stop their "money grabbing", how do you expect them to make up for the $10,000,000 deficit and continue to develop the game?

From an outsider's point of view, this seems almost like blackmail or extortion, certainly not the kind of activity that any Gaming website or member of the Gaming Press would want to get involved in, at least not if they value their career and good relationship with the industry.

I didn't know there was a first person view in the beta, I'd always played 3rd person. This whole thing reminds me of when people complained about easy mode in Dead Souls (or Dark Souls or whatever the game was that was hard as hell and had "Souls" in the title).

some of you make some interesting points, but not at all anything i haven't seen in the official forums;

a few notes so you know what's happening:


first off they promised never to give us third person or consumables; ever.

second - we had to find out about this implementation through twitter; they weren't doing it through their official forums because they knew we would rage.

third - this is not the original thread full of rage, this is another one that the developers made

fourth - this thread has had 2/3rds of it's posts deleted!! deleted!!!!!!!!!!!

fifth - we're aware they are not making us play with the third person crowd, but faith in the company is so low and they're known to be such a bunch of liars, we're afraid they'll backtrack on that too.

sixth - they're planning on alienating the playerbase by separating third and first person into different queues.

seventh - this is not just about the third person, they have started implementation on consumables that you can buy for gold, that free players are not entitled to off the bat.


thanks for "setting me straight" including all those gratuitous insults; but think again, the community is indeed enraged.
the reason you're seeing such a calm "debate" is because they deleted most of the posts in there and the original thread.
we had to find out about this from another source and after a lot of drama they finally announced their plans

Nope, I'm pretty sure no community backlash will ever top the shitstorm that was the ME3 ending controversy. I'm not trying to stir the pot on that one, just saying you should get it straight.
