I didn't get much but I didn't ask for a whole lot either. Most of what I want is not something that is giftable.

Though I did get Red Dead Redemption 2 and Dad of Boy....er, God of War.

So I look forward to playing those.

Got the Xbox 1 X and Red Dead 2.

Reminds me of experiencing surround sound and not. Now that I've seen RD2 in 4K... I can tell the difference. Heck, I've still got gamecubes but I'm seeing the improvements.

Though, Just gifted myself Assasin's Creed Odyssey : spectacular. I think the last must have (birthday comes) is G-d Of War 4. Yeah, I'll play on OG PS4 but I am sure it will be a blast.

Yeah, I picked up AC:Odyssey on steam sale. I am looking forward to playing it, but I'm waiting until I'm ready to block off an entire month to do so.

I got various beard oils and a nice scarf from my girlfriend and that's it because I'm an adult and I generally don't give a damn about Christmas anyway.

Hope your rig does it justice. And monitor. New monitor on my radar too. I'm currently playing PC on a 39" TV set.

EDIT: Grrr... you got it for $5 less than me!

I actually bought a new video card(my old one was 5 years old...my new one, somewhat less old) when I noticed Syndicate was starting to chug under moderate graphics setting. I made sure the new one hit at least the recommended specs. Also doubled my RAM. I'll upgrade my processer if need be.

Origins played fine, so I hope Odyssey will play at least as well.

You mentioned a bottle of single malt scotch in an R&P thread. What did you get?

[small]Asking because I'm a bit of an enthusiast. Also because in the other thread it would be rather off-topic[/small]

How did I do? I did alright. Some small things from the girlfriend, figurines and stuff, always good. A Super Metroid shirt. Got to spend the week playing Smash Ultimate with her.

If we wanna talk bragging, though, I bought her a Switch and three games (Let's Go Eevee, Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey). So she did good.

I was told this should be there. Live and learn. This stuff is delicious and cost about 3 times what I normally pay for myself.

I personally prefer peatier Islay style whiskey, but Oban is good while also still accessible, both in terms of taste and cost. I can recommend some whiskeys like it, if you want, although I can't think of any that aren't in the same price range or higher.

This year I got: A couple of books on ancient Greek mythology, half a dozen beeswax candles, a couple more books on foraging herbs and mushrooms, some Kilner jars and an Eve mattress (well, I bought an Eve mattress with gifted Xmas monies).

And yes, I'm chuffed with all of them.

Yikes! As pricey or more! Oban is already out of my (normal league)! But sure, what, at that level, is a favorite of yours?

Just for clarity, all prices I'll mention are in Euro. I have no idea how much importing into the US affects the price.

Highland whiskeys (sort of) similar to Oban: Caol Ila, Clynelish, Ardmore, Bowmore, Bruichladdich and Highland Park. Out of these, Bruichladdich is my favorite, but unfortunately also one of the most expensive at about 50 euro. Bowmore and Highland Park are probably the cheapest of the bunch (but still good). You could possibly find them as low as 30-ish euro.

As for the stuff I like, that would be Islay whiskeys, which are characterized by being very peaty i.e. they smell and taste "smokey", which isn't for everyone. It's a 'you either love it or you hate it' things. My favorites are Ardbeg Uigeadail and Lagavulin 16yo. Both great expressions, but not very accessible because of the heavy peatiness. Also pricier at about 70-80. That said, both also have more basic 10yo versions that retail for about 50, although the taste isn't much "easier".

Unfortunately, increasing demand the last years coupled with some lackluster production has made a lot of whiskey more expensive. Much of the really, really good stuff that used to go for 50-ish can now go for 200 or more.

Oh, and if you want something affordable: Speyburn Bradan Orach or Glen Moray Classic. Both go for a little over 20 and are great value for the money.

Drink it straight and unchilled tho. No ice, soda or coke, although you can add a few drops of water if you want. This'll take away some of the sting of the alcohol, while not diluting the flavor. It's also a good idea to let it sit a bit after pouring and before drinking.

Oh yeah. I drink straight up most of the time. I like flavor. Just asked a worker bud what she brought in one time from Scotland. Honest, tasted like the wax lips we chewed as kids but it was special and would love to have some again. She throws tastings where they have a sip straight, ice, and a little water judging how it changes the sip. Way out of my league explaining so much about Scotch, Whiskey, blends, single malts, etc to me. I will look for Speyburn Bradan Orach or Glen Moray Classic. As someone that has been drinking gin for 30 years, this brown stuff is really starting to get to me.
