Actually, they aren't referring to the Minute Men as the Watchmen, they're referring to the Crime Busters, the group they were all originally in, that was made by Captain Metropolis, after the Minuet Men split up. And you can't really blame them, Crime Busters is a stupid name, and they didn't want people who didn't read the books to not get it.

I must sound like a total comic book nerd.

As for the movie, we'll just have to see what happens.

Awesome movie, couldn't miss the point any more if it was deliberately aiming in the wrong direction

Blue Man - "Why would I save a world I no longer have any stake in?"
Lady Spandex - "Do it for me..."

Really? The Watchmen, a book/comic/graphic novel that everyone everywhere loves, contains dialogue this bad? This is almost Star Wars prequel atrocious.

You people need to grasp something: This is a trailer meant to attract a mainstream audience, not one to attract a fandom.

As such, it is full of random dialog and action scenes spliced together.

I will admit that the trailer could have done it's job and still maintained a level of quality, but I disagree this is a sign of doom for the movie (There have been quite a few trailers that did their respective movies no justice).

Rorschach seems pretty well done, but this might be influenced by my fanboyism (I was him for Halloween). I don't think the slow motion was that bad, Frank Miller usually uses it well. I will be seeing this movie at midnight whether it's good or not. Overall, I don't thnk it will be anywhere as bad as I think the game will be.

its taken out of context in the preview... Imagine if you would if god said that.

And i have to leave this thread lest my inner fanboy take hold.

hehe fair point, in the context of a graphic novel it's much better, and the ending to a much longer conversation that touches on topics of predetermination, rape, forgetting about oxygen, physics, the meaning of life, the geography of mars, and how it's a metaphor for the meaning of life(or lack there of) and the intrinsic and quantifiable values of both the landscape and human life. Oh, and the nature of time, it's linearity, or lack there of... DAMNIT READ THE DAMN COMIC BOOK... er.. graphic novel.

also Spandex lady and bidie guy share a laugh about narrator dude killing one dude who got off on being beaten up by "masked adventurers" It's hilarious .

doh, took too long to write.. someone beat me to it.

It's not going to be as good as the comic. I already know that. I've even heard something from a friend of mine that nearly halved my enthusiasm for it. Well, maybe not halved, but it certainly carved a chunk out of my optimism that this movie would do the comic justice.

Rorschach's voice I'm okay with. Slow motion: meh. What kind of deflates me is John's (Doc Manhattan's) voice. I don't think Crudup has a deep enough tone to carry a super hero god. I always thought it would sound bigger and more distorted like he was speaking through a fan or into a tin bath or down from the heavens or something.

I agree with the voice issues. I would've thought Dr Manhattan would sound much more...impressive

I think this movie is going to be a drama: We will go to the cinema with high expectations and exit crying.

Anyway, I have no clue about the superheros in this film, what is up with the wierd costume on the chick ? Why isn`t she part naked?!?!?

TO EVERYONE COMPLAINING/CONFUSED ABOUT NAMES.
It's titled "Watchmen" after the title of the series Watchmen by Alan Moore. I don't seem to understand the confusion. was it perhaps released in different countries under the title Minute Men? that doesn't make any sense either; Moore is British.
No, the title is quite correct.
If you don't believe me, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watchmen

Laurie Juspeczyk: Hey, you remember that guy? The one who pretended to be a supervillain so he could get beaten up?
Dan Dreiberg: Oh, You mean Captain Carnage. Ha ha ha! He was one for the books.
Laurie: You're telling me! I remember, I caught him coming out of this jeweller's. I didn't know what his racket was. I start hitting him and I think "Jeez! He's breathing funny! Does he have asthma?
Dan: Ha Ha Ha. He tried that with me, only I'd heard about him, so I just walked away. He follows me down the street? broad daylight, right? He's saying "PUNISH me!" I'm saying "No! Get lost!"
Laurie: Ha Ha Ha. What ever happened to him?
Dan: Well, he pulled it on Rorschach, and Rorschach dropped him down an elevator shaft.
Laurie: PHAAA HA HA HA! Oh, God, I'm sorry, that isn't funny, Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!
Dan: Ha Ha Ha! No, I guess it's not...
Laurie:Ahuh. Ahuhuhuh...Jeez, y'know, that felt good. There don't seem to be that many laughs around these days.
Dan: Well, what do you expect? The Comedian is dead.

Seconded. In the change from GN to movie, it's lost surprisingly few key elements. Even Spidey/X-Men lost quite a few.

Moore may have got his knickers in a twist about it, but you really couldn't show one of his films without at least an X rating.

I'd be interested to see if they actually deal with how Walter Kovacks became Rorschach though. Very interested.

I think that's the point. Doc Manhattan is just a human with the powers of a God. The Metatron doesn't come as part of the standard deal. As for Rorschach's, that's perfectly in keeping with his character.

To be fair to ol' alan, he's been kicked in the nuts by hollywood more than once. and very rarely does the True Vision of his work translate well into cinema. This one i'm kinda hopeful for. there are a few things that bother me tho:

Rorschach's sense of right and wrong were incredibly prevailent in the book. He punishes the bad to extremes. his line in the Trailer about saying no didn't seem quite right. almost selfish, which he certainly isnt

"it was only a matter of time i suppose" seems REALLY wrong, although im not sure why. he's the first one killed, but he knows what's going on. god knows for how long he's known, but i don't think he would have expected it
