It's true. Brazil has officially elected Tiririca, the Brazilian clown as a their federal deputy. He also goes by the name "Grumpy" and would go to children's birthday parties. His campaign slogan? "It can't get any worse" and "What does a member of congress do? I don't know, but vote for me and I'll tell you!"
He won by a land slide and got more then twice the amount of votes the number two, the man in charge before this vote. And they still don't know if he can read or write.
Yeah, it's a good day to live in Brazil.

SORRY I FORGOT LINK:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4jManupUHE That is his add campaign, the musi in the back says "2222, Tiririca, federal!"

How about providing a source to prove you didn't just pull this out of your ass?

It's really not much different than Michelle Bachmann being elected. Brazilians are so frustrated with the political system they'd vote for anyone who is totally different from that system. It's also unconfirmed whether or not he's illiterate.

It's not that I thought he was kidding, I had a feeling it was probably true. It just bothered me that he rattles off this crazy story and expects us to take his word for it, without providing any sources or further information.

Also, there is almost no discussion value here.

Not that any of that is your fault :) It's his.

Well I don't speak Portuguese so I didn't understand the video, but if the article is true, that's pretty insane. How hard is it to test if you're illiterate or not? Just show him anything with words on it and say "read this."

George Bush just got voted into Brazilian Congress?!

On a serious note, it says more about the other members of Congress then anything else.

The initial group of people who called his literacy into question did so as a way to try removing him from office. Considering they're most likely supported by people who lost the election, these performance tests for office can lead to a messy political situation.

I would LOVE if this was a way a very facist dictator came to power. By fooling the populace into thinking he was a clown, and once he is in the mask slips.

On a more serious note, that's seriously messed up and sort of an argument against democracy.Since it proved the average voter is a moron who does not care.

Just like the whole "where's Obama's birth certificate?" thing?

Without the racial overtones. I think it's more of mainstream politicians in Brazil (where there is a fair amount of corruption) going "This person can't be politician because he's not one of us."

Perhaps you should moderate your own grammar before berating someone for their mistakes?

On topic, I assume it is just another example of voter stupidity.
