I'm pretty excited. I told my wife not to bug me tonight, 9-10PM because I'm going to be watching the first of the last 8 episodes of one of my top 3 favorite TV shows tonight.

It's been fun, with Time doing stories, or the upcoming Jonah Goldberg piece:

"There is at the irreducible core of conservatism the idea that human nature is what it is. AMC?s Breaking Bad grapples with the crooked timber of humanity as it is, and painfully demonstrates that, once you choose to break out of the cage of civilization, you are not so much free as lost."

It's hard not to root for a central character to a show, whether its Hawkeye on M.A.S.H. or Tony Soprano on the Sopranos. So, part of me roots for Walter White. But he is a monsters. He has become a monster by choice. And he has spread high quality poison all over the west coast. He deserves to go down hard.

Given the opening foreshadowing of this season, I think he will go down, very, very hard and a lot of near innocents dear to him are going to go down hard too.

What are you all thinking about this? Any good articles, reviews you want to link? Thanks.

No speculating, I'm just as excited as hell. :D

Though i just hope they don't kill W.W with his cancer, that would be so lame after everything that has happened.

Cancer would be very anti-climactic at this point. Agreed.

I really can't wait to find out why Walter was buying that big automatic weapon in the first episode of this last season.

No speculations in my reply to you though! I understand you want to be surprised.

Really excited. Haven't got much speculation but one thing is probably certain.
Walt's going to die. We know he's going to survive the next year, he's going to change his name and go into hiding, but chances are he's going to die. And knowing this show... probably Jesse will too. Of course, we don't know the speicifcs of how and when but if neither Walt nor Jesse die by the end of the last episode I'm going to be surprised.

I think Walt's family is going to die. The first episode has him making a 52 out of bacon on his pancakes. This is something his wife used to do for him each year. Where is she to be doing this for him? I doubt brother in law would kill her. It is psycho ginger that killed the kid and his prison gang leader dad. Not sure what their motivation would be now that he is retired.
Just a guess. I really have no idea! But I can't wait.

I want to see Jesse bodyslam a guy so hard, the guy explodes.

No specific reason, just want to be able to say "(verb) a guy so hard he exploded" with context.

And I want to see something bad to happen to Skyler. No one likes her anyway.

I'm hoping that the theory that Walt will do something bad to Skyler is right, mainly because I could then say "I told you so" to a friend who doesn't believe it.

Super excited.

The show has to end with Walt dead. I don't know who or what will kill him, but that is the only way the show can end.

I, for one, am happy that they're letting the show go before it jumped the shark. Can't wait for the episodes!

I have to agree. But, who or what will kill him. It would be interesting if anti-climactic if he dies of natural causes. Say, a heart attack that has nothing to do with his cancer.

OK guys, here's my theory for the end:

Hank confronts Walter. Walter goes on the run, eventually faking his death.

Walt moves across the country to a small suburb. He's got a fake identity and a younger face. He blows the remainders of the meth money setting himself up in a house and drowning his sorrows in alcohol. Has to get a shitty job and live the lower middle class life.

Eventually he finds a woman with whom he falls in love, and he finds himself with a new family and new problems.

Life is unfair.
I know it's really reaching, but I feel like that's the best possible way to end a series like this.

Haven't read anything in this thread, but I just caught 4-5 episodes of season 4 the other night and now I'm super crazy hooked.

I've always been aware of the show, knew the protagonist, knew the premise, thought it would be interesting, but I could NEVER seem to catch it on.

Damn it, I was planning on rewatching the last half season before this one started, now I'm out of time.

Really hope Skyler and the baby are killed, maybe Walt Jr too.

I despise Skyler and dying is the only way I can see that baby having a purpose.

I really hope the first episode just starts off with Hank coming out of the toilet and beating the shit out of Walt.

I hope you're referencing Malcolm in the Middle.

I wouldn't be surprised if Vince Gilligan ends up screwing with everybody and has Walt be the only character who survives, or at least have him get away with it all.

If Jesse dies, my life will be half-ruined.

I just finished tonight's episode, and it was nothing like I was expecting, though it was still amazing. That confrontation between Hank and Heisenberg gave me chills, yo! Though I'm still a bit unsure of where that leaves them.

What's the ricin for, Walt?!

That beginning part does indeed imply that it has been a couple of years since (prehaps even a decade), so I guess hank has a tough decision to make, and that decision eventually sends Walt to jail eventually. I also guess that Skyler also gets jailtime due to the money laundering scheme, that i suppose also get's found out.

Walter eventually comes out of jail, because he is dying...maybe, and the ricen is what walter wants to end his life with, instead of the cancer? This is just speculation on my part, but we will have to wait and see.

An I the only one no wants to know what happened to that kid from I think it was season 2 that had those two junkies as parents? I know it's only a minor thing but most of the other loose end have been neatly tied up by now.

So how do you explain the bit with the giant machine gun?

Actually, it's been one year. Near the end of the last season, Walt celebrated his 51st birthday, and we saw him make a "52" out of bacon at the very beginning of the season, a birthday tradition for him.

As for speculation, I have no fucking clue. All I can say for certain is that Future Walt certainly seems to have a very specific plan. Right now, my two biggest questions are "What's the ricin for?" and "Where's Walt's family?"

That's another question for me, well that and what the big machine gun is for. You've got one stealthy murder weapon, and one balls-to-the-wall extreme one, what does he need both for?
