It's popular? Strange because I hate it so badly. The AI on single player gangs up on you and is completely un-enjoyable to play with. Hopefully ESV with be a lot better than this.I'll just keep playing TF2. At least it has a decent training levels.

Obvious TF2 clone+Console+hype=Profit. <---Easy money maker.
The developers are the same folks who made Enemy Territory: Wolfenstein and ET: Quake Wars. The gameplay of both game is the same as Brink. While I agree, the many escort missions is the same as escorting the little wagon in TF2, they are nothing alike since there are many different type of objectives, both primary and secondary.

I didn't buy the hype on brink, however when I saw that my pals were getting, I was like, let's give it a try. After 30+ hours of gameplay, I can say that I love the game, more than I like TF2 or Black Ops. But it's definitely a game that merit the 6/10 that IGN gave it. It's flawed. It has many problems, it's poorly optimized, has maps that should have been better design to exploit the S.M.A.R.T system.

I just hope they release a SDK, and listen to the community as well as allow the community to help fix and improve the game (hence why I think the SDK should be released).

I have almost no problem with the AI, they actually do the objective, you just need to bare with their shenanigans including going for the supply terminals rather than directly for the main objective.
