I'm looking to find a private server for Minecraft for me and my friends, and Brohoster seems like a good option. I always get skeptical when I look at a company I've never heard of, even more so when the service gets universal praise (makes me unsure as to whether or not its just the employees posting reviews). Has anyone used this service? Any issues or are they all they say they are?

dude if you're looking for a minecraft server just go to the minecraft website and look in the forums. There's tons of em listed just shop around for a bit until you find one you like. Hell I think the escapist has one if you want to try that out.

Never heard of this Brohoster company but they sound like something you should stay far away from.

I looked through those, but I'm an admitted anti-social jackass. I don't want to play with strangers, just my group of friends. That's why I'm looking at some sort of subscription server service to get me by until its ported to the 360. Thought it would be more cost effective than buying a computer myself to act as a server.

In that case, Hamachi IS the cheaper and simpler option. Think about it: all Hamachi does is emulate a LAN connection through the internet, the only thing more private than that would be an actual LAN-party.

...Host it yourself. Fuck hamachi. Open a port, give your friends your IP address.

No different networking layers to go through, less tweaking, and sometimes less hassle. Unless you don't know how to open a port, but you can google that and find a guide for the exact model of your router.

Hamachi is a wasted security measure. They'd have to know your IP either way the only difference with hamachi is you have to log into hamachi, know the hamachi network name, and then the hosts IP (which is displayed, and can be copied with a right click, but still) It's just a useless hassle for a private server.

and to make it batter, if someone does hand out your IP you get a new one in a month. So you can just not tell whoever made it public. >.>

... :D sorry for that, just don't see hamachi as optimal for a small group of friends. It's just stable (your IP won't change)

You can also get free DNS services so you won't have to keep giving out a new IP...and if someone does breach security you can just break the link to your IP >.> and..

Okay ..okay..I'll stop...

So host the server yourself, it's not very hard at all. It's as easy as downloading the server executable from the website and double clicking to turn it on. Pull up What is my ip [http://www.whatismyip.com/] and tell your friends to put that into the box when they select multiplayer.

There's really zero reason why once you buy Minecraft you have to pay a single cent more. Don't use a third party subscription service; you'll be wasting your money. I routinely boot up my own server to play the game with a guy I know in Canada, no middle man subscription company required.
