It's a damn good show and I love how all the characters are actually 3 dimensional and likable. Not to mention it never insults your intelligence or tries to talk down to its audience. Also it seems that every part of the show has huge amounts of effort put into it whether it be the animation, the writing, or the music.

Watch this; You can enjoy s1e25:party of One with no prior context. I'm a serial converter BTW. If you still don't understand why we love this show then there is no hope for you

I like it but I don't consider myself a "bronie" by any stretch of the imagination.
Why do people on the internet seem to think the degrees of a fandom are "despise it" or "fanatically infatuated with it"? It's a fun show that is a good 22 minute distraction that occasionally makes me laugh.

And does your friend absolutely love Halo following your explanation, or, like me, is he still largely indifferent toward it?

This is a pet hate of mine, when people feel the need to explain to you why something is good, as though to imply you must have misinterpreted your own opinion; like every stoner ever who has this song that you 'absolutely have to listen to, man.'

Cause it's a really really good show. I don't know why people question this.

Nobody questions fans of, like, Breaking Bad.

Come on now. Beyond personal taste, how can anyone account for anything? You don't like it, that's fine, there's nothing WRONG with you.

Okay fine.
First off, all the guff everyone else says; good storylines, very good animation, high quality voice-acting, not just a 25min advert for toys, designed for parents to be able to sit through it whilst their kids watch and not want to gouge their eyes and ears with the family pet.

But as time went on the writers have put more and more references that kids won't get but older viewers will, and that's pretty cool.
I was unfamiliar with this term until Howard covered it recently.

If this show is putting in adult references moreso than stuff like Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles, it would seem like they're trying to appeal to adults, which is weird in the first place.

Otherwise I'm still baffled why this show more than any other cartoon is appealing to 20-something adults.

I always appreciate a cartoon with the development team clearly enjoying making it.

This is one such. I wouldn't call myself a brony in the least. Labeling myself as liking a cartoon purely to be quirky and feel different seems... Obnoxious to me. I like all good cartoons, no matter who they're aimed at, and I've never hid that, I've had odd looks, but I haven't... gotten in anyones face about it. It's like me wearing a T-Shirt stating my sexual orientation, yeah it might be different from the mainstream, but only if the topic pops up THEN I'll talk about it.

But I am just a cartoon fan, through and through, and I'd be very cynical indeed to not enjoy a show targeted at little girls with such tongue in cheek humor and references.
Especially sometimes alluding to more complex mythology as well. (The Windegos in he Hearth's Warming Eve episode really made me balk because I remember reading about what those were and that's really... just... Wiki them if you must)

I've always liked the work the production team has produced before, so it seems logical I would like the brain child amalgamation of what came of all of them working together.

It's ...enjoyable. Average fare if you're a gung ho Anime fan, but as a Cartoon I see it as a good step in the direction of how much involvement should be had.
Things buried in it that as kids grow up they understand and appreciate even more. That is how a cartoon resists stagnation.

Edit: The Songs. Also. I cannot believe how sticky they are. Daniel Ingram is some kind of diabolical mad genius.

After watching the first episode of MLP,I still don't know why people love it so much. I mean there is nothing wrong with it,is just i don't see why so many people like it,and before you say it's personal taste, please say why.

Example:My friend thinks halo is meh but doesn't understand why I like it,so I explain that I like the multiplayer and story of the series.
First episode isn't the best, the first and second eps are just to introduce the characters, after that it gets much better ;)

OT:

-It's got great characters with their own personalities/flaws which I find very likeable.
-It's got some great writing, good scenarios, and the characters also project a bit of humour which is always nice.
-ADORABLENESS

It's just a solid cartoon, something that hasn't been done since the 90's/early 2000's (Megas XLR is still better)

That's a cop-out and a bit of a pet peeve for me. The whole concept of not being able to explain what you like about something is completely ridiculous. You go on and manage to justify your own interest in the show, so doesn't this come off as...Well, wrong to you?

good animation, likeable characters, funny. You know, stuff that makes you enjoy things. I don't understand why people have problems with it.

Saying that, I am a convert. I used to make fun of my friend for liking it until he got me to watch a couple episodes.

No, because I don't expect anyone else to take my line of reasoning and accept it as their own.

As much as I hate the whole 'love and tolerate' bullshit the brony community perpetuates, I'm beginning to hate the threads dedicated to hating MLP. Nobody gives a shit if you don't like it or don't understand why people like it, you don't have to understand it, you don't have to care, just let them enjoy their show.

Also, just a quick note to jot down: Very few "Bronies" follow or believe the "Love and Tolerate" law people think they believe. I only love myself and my objects, and I refuse to tolerate morons. Which may be why I am one of the most despised Admins on my servers by the pubbers who like to use hatespeech.
It's a vocal minority so you all get lumped in together most of the time. I realize most of you are normal people but their behavior reflects on the entire fan base.

If you were a parent, and wanted to watch TV with your child, would you rather sit and watch a interesting, humorous, well animated show about ponies... or some generic kids show with no plot, vacuous writing, and bland characters?
The pilot is probably not the best episode to watch if you want to see it's appeal, but would you honestly rather be watching Dora? I don't think so.
That's why Lauren Faust set out to create a cartoon that adults could enjoy too.

Bronies can get a bit overzealous at times, but it really is in my opinion the best animated show on TV right now.
