Im interested what exactly is so bad in Firefly that is worse than the "pulling a beating heart out a man" that was in The Temple of Doom...
Honestly?

Simon: I don't understand.
Zoe: You've never heard of Reavers?
Simon: Well, campfire stories of men gone savage on the edge of space, killing and?
Zoe: They're not stories.
Simon: What happens if they board us?
Zoe: If they take the ship, they'll rape us to death, eat our flesh and sew our skins into their clothing. And if we're very very lucky, they'll do it in that order.
Also, the fact that it had a group of people that were morally ambiguous to say the least. On top of which, none of the other licenses that LEGO has approved has ever promoted prostitution. Whether or not it should be allowed is a different matter but the material is definitely not aimed for kids 6 to 11.

Shame, really... I haven't bought Legos since I was a kid, and I would have so ordered one of these. Would have been awesome sitting on my shelf.

Oh, good lord! Could the nerd world PLEASE do me a big favor and shut the f**k up about Firefly/Serenity? Seriously! It ran for 11 episodes TEN YEARS AGO! Give it a rest!
you could say the say about people into star wars, Muppets, A-team, Smurfs and other things the were years ago and are given a reinvigoration of life

After the update.
How is Batman considered suitable for 6-11 year old considering the back stories and fixation of the villians. With murder, torture and other twisted action Batman really isn't a childs subject.

Knew it, when I first saw the report I was honestly surprised, I like firefly as much as the next nerd but a lego form? It's no way near as ambiguously-tame-horror filled as say, something like Star wars. The Reavers are genuinely terrifying and described and portrayed as such.

As well as the main cast although awesome, not...exactly a shining pinnacle of what society deems, moral human integrity.

I would have loved for this to come out personally, but I can't see it being appealing enough for kids to justify.

@Marc Pearce, Batman has over 30 different incarnations, when creating the lego form they used the template from the Cartoons/Lego games, more a slapstick, detective, goofy fighting tone. Firefly does not, it has one incarnation, and it's very gritty.

LEGO produces toys for children. Therefore all LEGO products, regardless of age target, must be content-appropriate for this core audience. With this in mind we have decided that as cool as the Serenity model is, the Firefly TV show and Serenity film contain content that is not appropriate for our core target audience of children ages 6-11. While we know this news will disappoint those who supported the project, we will not be producing this as a LEGO product.

Wait, so Firefly isn't age appropriate, but Star Wars, with it's blatant use of torture, assassination, genocide, murder of younglings, betrayal, domestic abuse and Jar Jar.......ALL OF THAT is age appropriate?

How many kids actully know batmans backstory in that age range.

OT: I dont particularlly mind this, since I was never a fan of either show (the hype and the, bring it back we want more pouting just made me not wnat to associate witht he product at all), but I can see why this wasnt green lit over the other "questionable" accepted franchises (batman, star wars, Indiana Jones). Hell that they makea pure yellow guy alone should be controversial if youre going to be anal about it (which Im guessing is only because its firefly/serenity). any of those other series are either thought of as kiddish by the majority or something a kid could watch and not have to worry about raising big questiosn.

This certainly would have been cool, but what I love about lego is building whats not in the instructions. Looks like its already possible to make kick as Firefly sets, who needs the Lego seal of approval (and price tag), I never did as a kid, thats for sure.

First Shaun of the Dead Lego Set, and now this......

WHY CAN'T I HAVE COOL LEGO SETS!!!! D:

Now I know the Motorized Lego Tachkoma unit that someone made isn't going to get made because Ghost in the Shell has adult content. Such a waste of potential Lego, seriously.

Why even have the site at this point?

So this isn't going to be made?
That's a shame, that said I'm not much of a lego user but still it would have been cool.

However as much as I love Firefly I'm ready to accept it's only fourteen episodes and a movie and all merch associated. I'm still pissed that Firefly never got the chance it deserved but still.

Also as cool as this lego looks I think it's fair to say that Lego probably thought it wasn't in their best interests to make merchandise based on a series that contained, among other things, a race of inhuman savage sadistic torturing cannibalistic rapists.

That doesn't scream 'kid friendly' to me.

Honestly.

Maybe its just me, but personally Ive never found two people having a conversation to be as confronting as watching a man pull someones heart out of their chest.

Firefly never showed any of those things, just had a character claim that that was what Reavers do. Even Serenity only had regular killings, not rape or skin sewing.

It's kind of silly to drop the firefly lego set over it having adult content. I mean, they have Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom lego sets, and that movie was about ritual sacrifice and child slavery, and definitely did not have less violent content than firefly.

Wait, Firefly is inappropriate, BUT EVE Online is OK??

In EVE, I have been cursed and abused, But I have shot many enemies. We had a scandals where one of our NON-Developer leadership (know as CSMs) said during a convention that a guy should kill himself. He was forced to resign his post in disgrace and banned for one month. There are a lot of people who said that he should not have been punished because that is part of the game.

LEGO, is making EVE ships (mostly frigates). That world I describe can be harsh and you need thick skin to survive. I would not recommend it to anyone under the age of 18 let alone 6-11 year olds.

I can not figure this out.

Anyone remember when the Lego assembly and subsequent creation were restricted only by our imagination. Simpler times those. Also, how many different ways can Firefly get canned? You'd think with Joss Whedon essentially conquering the world with the 200 million dollar grossing avengers, the IP he has always been the most passionate about would get some love. Ahhh well even he and the cast pgave up the ghost years back. Besides Serenity was and is a kickass film that wrapped things up nicely, so there's that at least.

LEGO did a cost/benefit analysis based on demographics, then concluded that they wouldn't profit. End of story. Also, lesbian sex.
