there is nothing wrong with listening to guns and roses. just as long as its actually guns and roses and not asshole rose with his band of misfits that they call guns and roses nowadays.
Yeah, quite like Guns 'n Roses. Just an example, not important really, nevermind.

The accusations were based off my friend... I just need clarity on whether I can enjoy this without being sort of... Fan-boyish.
A game about metal for people who like metal.
So what if wannabes hate it, so what if you look fan-boyish when you play it. Metal is fucking awesome.
Play the game and then come back to me when you have an opinion based on the actual experience.

I've never even played it. But there's something about it that really, really puts me off. I'll try and explain...
I feel like it's the kind of game that trys to appeal to the wannabe. You know, the kind of person who listens to Guns 'n Roses, and uses 'awesome' as a sort of all purpose adjective. The person that thinks that they might possibly start playing guitar, maybe, in the future, (so long as it's not to difficult anyway) but still considers themself an expert on the subject. Y'know, the person next to the stage at a concert wearing a slogan t-shirt. Yeah, a t-shirt wearer.

I kind of associate Brutal Legend with that kind of thing mainly cos of my friend, who shall remain nameless.
"It's like a dream world."
"I wish I was like the people in this game!"
"Isn't Ozzy Osbourne awesome?!" - This on the day after he bought the game.

Anyway, are my fears justified? Apologies for the rant, I got a bit carried away.
Wrong, i loved this game. And btw, im that guy who goes to at least one concert a month, i wear t-shirts, oh! and i can play the guitar, quite well actually, i have 4. But even if i didnt do these things i would still enjoy this game for the comedy and the 3rd person rts element. Halo doesent only appeal to space marines, and viva piniata doesnt only appeal to fiesta goers with sick minds that wish their piniatas were more life like.

Way to completely discredit your entire argument in the first five words. Give the game a chance and then say it panders to wanna-be metalheads. I am shocked by the amount of off the cuff game critics that never play the game they are complaining about on this forum.

As a fan of both old school metal and new school metal, I don't see how this game can make you a poser... The game is thoroughly in the corner of the old school, mocking goth and emo kids, glam and nu metal throughout the whole thing. If you're not into old school metal, playing this game won't make you a poser, it may just open your eyes to something you didn't know about before, and you can enjoy the game for it's many other qualities. It's not exclusively limited to fans of old school metal, it's a game for everyone.

Oh no, T-Shirts, what're we going to do?!

Seriously, the bands and music in brutal Legend are so unlike Guns 'n' Roses.

Do you hate Jack Black? because I do, and for that reason alone I will never play the game.

Thanks for the input. Anyway, different games have different purposes. I'm worried that the target audience for this particular game is wannabe.

This, however is what I was after. I might just buy it.

I'm not trying to review/criticise the game, I'm after advice.

Maybe, maybe not.
But may I point out that its not really fair to say whether or not you like a game until you play it. I've fallen into that trap on previous titles, and I don't recommend that at all with this game. I liked brutal Legend because I liked that genre of music to begin with. I guess it helps a bit. But its a solid game overall. The Plot may be a little rushed, the controls a little unexplained, but its a fun ride. A VERY fun ride.
And Guns and Roses are not in there. Are they even Metal? Or are they more like Party Rock? Anyway, seperate debate. There are so many kinds of music bands in there, some mainstream, some indie. Something for everyone. Expect to hear old favorites and something new too.
And since he was mentioned, Ozzy serves as your char's "Gear Guy", which is just fine. I was worried about him taking over the game if he was an ally.
If I may ask, do you also have a problem with Guitar Hero as well? Because the crowd you described is what that specific caters too. Brutal Legend may overlap with that game a little bit. But like stated before, its a game that you 'can take what you get from'.

Every group, sub-culture and crowd will have it's degenerates and it's posers etc. so it's only natural that the mighty leigons of the Metal fans would experience the same thing.

Brutal Legend will appeal to these people for obvious reasons but then it'll also appeal to people who genuinely are fans of the music along with people who've never even heard a single metal song in their life for one simple reason.

It's a game, anyone can play it. I sure as hell didn't like half of the songs in Guitar Hero 3 but I still play it because of the songs I do like. I personally could not care less about the political situation in the middle east yet I still enjoy playing both Call of Duty 4 and Army of Two.

I think the OP may be reading too much into the themes and iconography of the game.

Here, check the intro, if you haven't yet. I'm no fan of the game, but I think this might change your mind. The game itself picks on these fairy-like fanboy people you don't like yourself.

I don't think you're being fair to the game. It wants appease fans of metal and tries introduce metal to people who may not have given it a chance before. I played through the game (and really enjoyed it) not having been a big fan of metal. Now I'm listening to Black Sabbath like crazy because of the game, so I think it succeeds in that regard.

Edit: And by the way, Ozzy Osbourne is awesome, thank you very much.

What is a metal wannabe? Are you saying that only people with tatoos, piercings, don't bathe, and drive hearses should play it? I say if you like metal, you might like the game. But a purely metal game would be playing Painkiller with Black Sabbath blaring in the background. This is an entertaining, humorous game in a metal world that is very tongue-in-cheek. Who cares if somebody that's a tard likes it. If you do, that's all that matters. I thought it was fun as hell.

I hate those people who like things but not enough to live and breath it all the time. You should totally avoid this game just prove a point to those people even though the game is worth buying.
