BS:G or Caprica first?

So, it seems that my new Netflix account allows me to view both Battlestar: Galactica and what I gather is it's prequel show, Caprica, and I decided that this was a pretty good time to watch both. Knowing nothing about either show, I'm looking forward to tossing myself into the universe.

My question is this: which do I watch first?

I know that Captrica is a prequel and it would make sense based on that alone to watch it first, but then, many prequels are designed around the idea of the audience having aready seen the main product, and therefore understanding all of the beats and references building towards the future.

Sooooo... yeah. Do I watch Battlestar first, then enjoy Caprica as it builds up to Battlestar, or do I watch Caprica first as it sets the stage?

Watch BSG, and completely ignore Caprica. Caprica really isn't what one would call...good. There's some interesting ideas in it, but there's tons and tons of idiotic bullshit, and actually the very core of the show, and virtual reality world, ends up being completely and utterly stupid.

You're better off watching BSG and BS Blood and Chrome (a web series set between Caprica and Galactica). If you really feel like you need to watch more after BSG then I guess watch Caprica, but you should be prepared for some disappointment when you do.

BSG great Caprica not so much...great premise, poorly executed it did nothing for me despite having some really interesting ideas.....Blood and Chrome is pretty good though. Watch Caprica if you want more backstory, but watch BSG first as it came out first.

Caprica was definitely a momentum killer for the Battlestar name. Galactica is just sublime in its excellence, but Caprica was just...ehh. It felt more like a teen drama in the future than a prequel to the intense and political Galactica series.

I mildly enjoyed Caprica, but I LOVED BSG. And really, they're two completely different beasts, almost 2 separate genres. Galactica is just totally different animal. If Sci-Fi with some great character drama is what you're looking for, then Galactica is your thing. If you're looking for some basic character (melo)drama with some sci-fi sprinkled in, then Caprica will do.

Hey! There are... "some" good episodes from the later seasons.

OP: Skip Caprica and just watch BS:G until you can't anymore. Don't you dare finish it.

Neither.
Caprica was cancelled after the first season, before the plot could really pan out.
BSG would have been better off being cancelled, instead of becoming genuinely awful after the second season.

Skip both. Anything resembling good was only good because of a tease. If you stick it out and wait for the show to explain every mystery from those good eps, you will hate yourself. Anyone saying otherwise is just lying to you and themselves, because someone has to find a way to justify spending all that time watching utter shit.

Go watch Farscape instead. It's a way better show that was highly unappreciated.

I rather liked BSG despite the fact it had some sucky stretches(mostly in the latter seasons). I watched the Caprica pilot ep, was not impressed at all, so I didn't bother with the rest of the show....which turns out was probably a good thing as it was canceled after the first season.

Loved BSG when it came out. Then I watched Farscape and everything was just so much noise by comparison.

Honestly, BSG tends to be good if you don't actually think about it all that much. The first and second season were solid, but then came the plothole invasion and nothing was ever the same again.

I like how now that I am watching BSG after Caprica, I recognize the city in the beginning credits
and my honest opinion is i LOVED Caprica, sure it's a bit teenager ish but still enjoyable for some
season 1 was deff better than season 2 as they seemed to be going off in a weird direction/tangent for the 2nd
season, but at the same time I was really started to wonder what will happen next and getting excited about it
I really felt like they didn't get the chance to explore much that perhaps a 3rd season would reveal,.
either way it does explain a bit of how it all began with the Cylons personally I'd give it a watch and see for yourself.

Watch two seasons of BS:G and consider a third. After that say "What a great show, shame they didn't make any more of it".
