True, they aren't as common as they were in 2009 (when Swift Swim + Rain Dance wasn't banned)
"Swift Swim + Rain Dance" aren't banned.

You don't really have to specify Prankster. No one in their right mind would use anything else. And Whimsicott was waaaay overhyped. It's little more than a poor man's Jellicent.

Excadrill IS banned.

I would love to enter a tournament where people used moves outside the standard sets - make things harder to counter and harder to predict, adding to the challenge and fun of the fights.
That happens all the time. It's called a constantly evolving metagame. Some of the most iconic sets came completely out of left field. Like special T-tar. Or SubT-wave Jirachi + LeadChamp combo (that's one of my personal faves). And Mew's legal now. I'm sure all sorts of crazy shit happens with that thing.
Why is excadrill banned btw? I don't play pokemon online (although i do want to get round to it) and i know that legendaries are banned, so why excadrill?

Legendaries aren't banned. Pokemon that prove too powerful for use in standard play are banned. Whereas an overwhelming powerhouse such as Mewtwo is legendary and is banned, so is Wobuffet. Not to mention many legends that are in lower tiers such as Entei (because Entei sucks balls).

Excadrill was banned after a round of suspect testing. Community leaders eventually voted that it was too powerful (mostly in part to it's immense speed and power in sand) to be allowed in standard play. Other notable bans of this generation include the banning of the use of the abilities Swift Swim and Drizzle in the same team, as well as the banning of Blaziken (due mostly to its acquirement of the overwhelmingly powerful ability Speed Boost).

Actually Wobbuffet has been delegated down to borderline. Not only is it allowed in standard play but it's frankly not good enough for most standard players. This was mostly do to encores new mechanics and the prevalence of u-turn and volt switch.

Oh wow. 5th gen is weird.

Now I'm gonna need a new example of a "weird pokemon that's banned even though you would think it sucks."

I can't see any besides Blaziken and Excadrill but Kyurem, the ice dragon with a 660 Bst was temporarily in UU because of its speed and typing. That's it. The fact that it was weak to bullet and mach punch as well as stealth rock and lagged behind the standard Uber speed of 100 by five was all it took to drop a 660 bst legendary down to below standard. 5th gen is weird indeed.

Ok, screw functionality, I'm just picking my favorites from each gen.
1) Scyther. Scyther is awesome, that is all (nidoking is a close second followed by gengar)
2) Scizor. Not as cool as Scyther, but close.
3) Blaziken. My favorite starter.
4) Luxray
5) Archeops
6) Mew. I was messing around with my old yellow version a while back and I decided to do the mew glitch which I hadn't done before. Turns out Mew is a freakin monster. Lots of fun with that.

Most people play by Smogon rules. A community of competitive battlers who arrange the pokemon into tiers based on a combination of usability and competitive balance. The "banned" pokemon are in the Uber tier here: http://www.smogon.com/bw/tiers/

Just Charizard. I've only seen the "1st gen" but it doesn't matter.

1.He can fly (no more carpool and so-long traffic.)
2.He can start fires and always has a lit tail (I never have a lighter when i need one, so its important to me.)
3.Chicks love dragons (He'd make a good wingmate)
4.Scary as hell (could cover me in a fight)
5.He's fuckin Charizard

Any other Pokemon would be a burden on my means of living, so i'd stick with one

Charizard isn't a dragon. He's a lizard with wings.

That's basically my favorite from each generation + my favorite legendary. Aside from double use of Ghost type, it's actually a fairly well balanced team.

This is why I can't wait for Generation 6 (I know, it won't be for at least 3 or 4 years at the earliest) but because once Gen 6 rolls around we'll be able to form a full team of our favorite Pokemon from each generation.

This is simmilar to my team smooshed together with all pokemon games.

Charizard (lvl 100, everyone else is level 1 for all I care.)
Togepi (It is traditional when possible)
Pelliper (HM slaves ftw!)
Bibarel (HM WOO)
Vanillish (Might as well, its the only Unova thing I know)
Mewtwo (he's required and looks fucking awesome!)

In every pokemon game I've played I keep my starter pokemon and only train that. I catch some pathetic ones for HM's then Im set for life.

Oh ya and my items would be:

99x Revives
99x Max Potions

Just in case Charizard is beaten, I got 5 more shots at it.
