Building a Bass...

Okay, So i customized some of the guitars i own, In woodworks class in school i had to come up with my 9th grade project and figured ''Lets build a bass!'' Now problem is...
I don't own a bass off my own to base it off (no pun intended).

So i wondered, Are there anyone here on The Escapist that built a bass or owns a bass that can help me?

Also it would be awesome with some tips from people with pickups and stuff to use also.

No, I am normal and just went out and bought one, because I know I'd fuck up building one...

Well i was thinking 'bout buying some cheap 50 euro bass to use for bridge placements and stuff...
Would still need expert help with what pickups and stuff to use.

It's not like there are people who train for years to become luthiers or anything. I'm sure you could figure out how to design an instrument you're never played, from scratch, in a weekend.

That is basically a big chunk of wood that's the right thickness for a Bass guitar, it has the holes you need for neck, bridge etc. It is however fairly expensive although I'm sure you could get the requirements somewhere on the internet.

I think i'll stick to building a bass, I'm pretty much a perfectionist when it comes to things that i wanna make... perfect.

I'll be doing the body from scratch, Well be cheaper that way becuse the school will be paying for the wood, Mwaha

Anyone else thought "if you don't own a bass, bass can't be your main instrument"
If all you own are guitars, wouldn't it make more sense to make a guitar

Sure i don't own a bass, But i am a qualified bassist still, I played bass in 2 bands, both wich i borrowed a bass. And i think it usally is abit more fun to play bass sometimes.

Plus i own 7 Guitars, 5 that are already personally customized. Do you think i need one more of those?

I also see the word "bass" as the fish before the instrument. Hint to all thread readers: it's much funnier to read it all as bass(fish) instead of bass(instrument).

Word of advice: if you are actually going to string the bass, make sure you reinforce the hell out of the neck. Since you will probably not be using high quality wood, I would be worried about the force of the strings splintering the neck.

If you actually build this thing, post some pics. I want to see it!

I considered building a guitar for myself until I read up and researched exactly how much work and precision it takes to get it right. So instead I just spent silly money on the 6 I own and now Manson is making some of his Matt Bellamy signature guitars maybe my dream of owning a bomber will come true.

But if you're serious with time and patience and a bit of research good luck to you, you might make something fantastic, I have a friend with a home made guitar, I think from cherry wood... it's gorgeous.
