I will post some pictures when i will be finishing it.

And i looked on internet on regular tree types, One usual one in gibson guitars was alder. Wich luckily my school has an overflow off.

I have a local luthier (my Grandpa) that will make neck for me, The rest is up to me.

So i got most of those stuff figured out :p

Design is ready, Wood is ready to be cut, I have my money ready for the gear.
Sadly next Tuesday is the last day before summer vacation so you prolly won't see any pictures that resemble a bass until the fall :p I might post some pictures of my guitar customizations later tough.
All i have is a mobile phone camera, And that don't take that great pictures.

Yeah i'm pretty serious about it, I did most research i need for the building. And i have some experience from painting and reshaping guitar bodies and fitting electronics and stuff like that. I think it will work out great :D

Only thing i need now is someone who is experienced in basses, Want to have a great looks with great sound. Not only great looks :p

Hell, this sounds awesome, so good luck with it.

To be honest, I wish I could offer slightly more constructive than this -

Try D'addario strings for when you finally get round to it

- but I'm a guitarist, not a bassist, and have no idea how useful anything I tell you would turn out to be.

Just a question, since I'm slightly confused:

Are you just building the body of the bass, or are you expected to fill it with all the electronic gubbinz as well? Or, even better, is it going to be an acoustic or electro-acoustic bass?

Yupp it will be an electrical bass, I'll be building the body then add electrical stuff to it.
I made electrical systems for guitars before so i know the mumbojumbo that comes with that :p

Well i was thinking 'bout buying some cheap 50 euro bass to use for bridge placements and stuff...
Would still need expert help with what pickups and stuff to use.
Erm.

Why not just buy the bridges direct from the factory?

My brother is currently making himself an electric guitar from scratch and got most of his components from either ebay or direct from suppliers for a pretty decent price. He has made everything himself except the neck which he got pre-built as he didnt have the time or patience to make his own.

mabe a bass is a little to grand of a project to start on. at my old school we wern't allowed to use the band saw till year 11. so the complexity of building an instrument with the correct spaceing of the fretboard, the more finikey types like the truss rod, because bass strings are gonna bend that neck like buggerey and also the small room for error. But im guessing you're not makeing it from complete scratch and you sound like you've done your reshearch so good luck.

i whould love to see a picture when your done to. it'll be one of those things you can show off

This might sound a bit stupid ,bit couldn`t you just build a standard guitar? some bassists use 6 strings (just can`t think of any famous ones)

Basses and guitars are built in different ways, Plus a six string bass is way harder to master. The most famous bassists usually stick to four and five sring ones.

I have a bass guitar. It's a Gibson.

Go online and check their stores or something and base it off theirs.

Am I the only person who thought this was about fish?

Idea! Build a Bass in the shape of a bass!
I was hoping it was about fish but prepared for the inevitable dissappointment.

But then I always think people are talking about fish when they talk about COD...
