So I'm building my first PC and I'm not really sure on a lot of things.
I've looked into cpu's and gpu's a fair bit and I've been told not to bother with an i7 processor and stick with the Intel Core i5-2500K, for about £170.
As far as GPU goes I want some pretty kick ass performance at 1080p, and the MSI GTX 660 Ti 2GB Power Edition at around £260 fits the bill for me just fine.
For RAM I think 8GB DDR3 would be fine but I'm once again unsure. Should I go for 16GB instead? The RAM isn't an enormous deal as it seems pretty cheap. I found dual-module 8GB for around £38.
For operating system I'm picking up windows 7 64bit with service pack 1, around £70, because what else cuts it really?.

I'm much less sure about motherboards, partially because my budget is a touch low, I don't want to spend an exorbitant amount of money on it, but I'm willing to part with cash for performance.

The Asus P8H77-M Pro is seemingly a good candidate, doing what it's required at a very good price (just shy of £90), but I'm not sure how well it will function with my CPU and GPU. Is micro-ATX appropriate for the task? Is it a decent board for gaming?

I know bugger all about what to do for power supply, nor for cooling. As for a case, this seems pretty reasonable: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zalman-Z9-Plus-Midi-Tower/dp/B004FPQL0E/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1346669919&sr=1-2

So really I just want some advice on the mobo, power supply, cooling and case, bearing in mind that cost is prefered low so long as it doesn't compromise horribly on performance. Also, any advice on whether to go for Blu-Ray or DVD and what specs is welcome.

Any other advice is perfectly welcome but less urgent. For example if you know of a card that can save me £50 without sacrifice then I'm all ears.

Please advise me Escapists!

They look like good choices but you can get an i5 3570K for the same money (third gen as opposed to the second gen 2500K).

I'd check for AMD/ATi cards around that same price point, just to make sure that 660 is the best price for the pound at the moment.

Asus motherboard are generally sound for the price. It makes almost no difference to performance, just pick a motherboard that has the features you want (USB 3, RAID, etc). Pretty much everything else doesn't matter. ATX vs mATX is a matter of space saving and preference.

You can get 8GB of 1600Mhz for £40 so look for that (look for 1.5v as opposed to 1.65v).

Also, buy everything from one place, I'd recommend eBuyer or Scan. Amazon isn't ideal for system builds, it's a bit too "supermarket" for my liking.
