Dear escapist community.

I'm a skinny dude, even though I weigh about 160 lbs. I challenge girls to wrestle me, and I always get beaten :p I'm so lame, so I figured I should muster the determination to start growing into a real man.

So, what do I do now?

The most important thing is nutrition. You need to be eating a lot of food if you want to gain weight (and you will gain weight if you start lifting), and you need to eat the right kinds of food. Plenty of protein is important, that's what you need to help your body repair your muscle after exercise.

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on any sort of exercise, but there are plenty of great resources on the internet available for this.

Best of luck!

I've got a trashy diet.

It's basically 3 big macs a day. I guess I'm lacking all kinds of nutrients.

How exactly do I create a decent diet for myself? I don't know how to cook too...

Just before you need that extra strength shout SHAZAM! It always works for me.

Altenatively, buy dumbbells, and just use them to train your arm muscles in your spare time (I actually have a brick I 'rescued' out of a skip, I use it as a dumbell while working on the computer, which I do a lot or mucking about online, which I do even more. In fact right now I'm practicing reps and psyching myself by listening to the Skyrim theme music)

My tip is pretty basic. Move! No gym is needed. Just work with something. If you have the possibilty: Cut down trees with an axe, the chop it up, and carry it inside. That give you more than enough training...

My training routine is basically 40-60 press ups 2-3 times every other day, and running 5 miles in the days in between. I'm still as skinny as a laptop :p Am I doing something wrong?

I personally lift weights every other day and swim laps (Enough to suffice for about 2-4 miles) on my off days.
You also have to maintain a balanced diet.

Well, not to plug products but the P90X programme is one of the most effective ways for building muscle if you follow the nutrition plan too. It's pretty much guaranteed results as long as you follow it daily. I weigh less than you but I managed to gain 5 pounds of muscle after a month.

Keep in mind the Kempo X program is total BS for martial arts but the exercise it offers is good.

Devour lots of calories and lots of protein especially. Then exorcise, not aerobics, they work on cardio endurance, focus on strength training like weight lifting. And did I mention protein. You have to consume more protein than you burn off with the exorcise. I suggest eating carbs to fuel the workout(they get broken down quickly so you get hungry more often and can ingest more calories) and then protein to support the increase in muscle mass. I'm no expert, but you'll probably have to increase your calorie intake by 50% or more, with a good deal of it being protein.

Also, talk to your school's coach, especially for wrestling or football. He/she will be able to give you specifics.

You shouldn't really need to do much. If your 160 now, then even a little exercise will make you alot stronger than I could hope for.

Edit: I read the later posts. It sounds like your doing plenty, just not eating enough, actually. If your having trouble with diet, learning to cook for yourself would actually be a big help :p

I've created this awesome drink: get skimmed milk, 5 eggs, and a blender.

Break the 5 eggs (crush the eggshells and add them to the mix too, extra calcium :D), mix with the milk, blend, and enjoy the proteins.

say screw it, bring a pair of brass knuckles, rings and a knife, and wreck their day.

Oka, seriously though, what do you want to work on? cause my grandfather makes me run after morning deer for four hours and then makes me run an extra hour if I didnt catch one/touch it. then when I play hockey, they attach ten pound weights to my ankles and I play like that.

But if you're looking for upper body, I dont know. I dont really do a lot of upper body because my grandfather and uncle taught me that speed was more important, and with enough skill and knowledge, it wouldnt matter how strong you are (or arent), you'll drop and possible kill someone just by dodging and redirecting.

Protein alone won't make you big, you need to lift. If you want to fight, practice that style, as the repetition will increase the connections between muscles and help them work together. Most weightlifters can't fight for shit because all they do is lift and their muscles work poorly together. At the beginning, technique is more important than weight; you won't ever progress if you aren't lifting properly. Also join a gym. I don't go to one anymore because I basically know what I'm doing, and do it all at home with dumbbells. Work your core. You won't get a 6-pack right away, but it's the center of power for your body, it'll make you stronger. Get a book or trainer to start, too. Carbs before excercise, protein after. Do reps in sets. More muscle is built with high weight and low reps, and do the reps slowly.
Solid advice.

What if I want to build endurance? I want to be able to wrestle a minimum of 3 girls and outlast them too. Right now I only last a minute.

That goal makes me very sad but whatever, the best way I can think of to build your endurance is to wrestle a lot the more you practice the longer you'll be able to last and you'll get better too. now here's how you can achieve this
1.) go out into the forest find a small fish and wrestle the fish and win.
2.) go find a kitten, wrestle the kitten and win.
3.) go find a dog, wrestle the dog and win.
4.) go back into the forest find a bear, wrestle the bear and win.
5.) travel to japan, find godzilla, wrestle godzilla and win.

there after that you should be set to take on 3 girls.

Well first, it's probably not mere strength that's the issue. You're probably challenging girls who know a few things about leverage, flexibility, and agility.

Even still, a Rocky Balboa-type training montage wouldn't hurt.

Buy a set of dumbells. I borrow my housemates. 10 reps each arm, three times a day, you'll build muscle noticeably within weeks. I look a bit nicer already. :D

Protein shakes will also help build muscle mass and weight, filling you out a bit more.

Crunches, situps and pressups.... aim for ten. I still suck at those. :p

EDIT
Just to mention, I'm an equally skinny sixfooter, so I know what you mean :p

Do you challenge pro-wrestling girls or something? Or do you just challenge them because you like it when girls get rough with you =P

If you want to buff up, increase your calorie and protein intake and do a ton of exercise- especially weight lifting. It's just that simple.

Edit: One more thing, wrestling isn't only about strength, maybe if you're interested in wrestling you should practice wrestling moves.
