[HEADING=3]Bulletstorm First Impressions[/HEADING]
Epic Games and People Can Fly have finally stopped teasing us about their latest game Bulletstorm and have released a demo for the Xbox 360. There doesn't appear to be a PC demo in the cards, and the PSN demo will release Wednesday January 26. Its almost funny that the names of the developers fit perfectly into the description of this game. It can be described as Epic in the most "Bro" sense of the word, and it shows perfectly that people are indeed capable of flying. However this game doesn't just appeal to the trigger spastic crowd. It can also be seen as a parody of the violent video game world. Nolstagiacs can look to it for their 90's fix. This, since the game is only in demo form, is a first impression of this game, played on the Xbox 360.

The Demo showcases the "Echo" mode of Bulletstorm; this is the mode that allows you to replay various campaign missions just for points. This is tallied onto a local and global leaderboard, allowing you to compete with others to see who can amass the greatest score. At time of writing I am rank 1403 on the Global Leaderboards with almost 10 000 points. It is easy to get points, but only if you're willing to get creative with your kills. A standard kill will only net you 10 points which isn't going to help your chances of breaking that highscore. Instead you need to think outside of the box. Snag someone with your leash, attach a mine and kick him back into another crowd to obtain the "Gang Bang" kill and the "Hommie Missile" kill, that nets you 250 each, plus multiples on the Gang Bang kill. These are the kinds of things Bulletstorm gets you to do. Be outrageous, be over the top and the game will reward you for it.
While the mechanics of the game are fine and interesting, that won't do a damned thing unless the gameplay keeps up right? Well in this case the developers have done their best to ensure that it will. In the demo you are given 3 weapons. These are your standard machine gun with an Overcharge that allows you to use it as a shotgun, a pistol that doubles as an almost flare gun that you can incinerate your foes with and the mine gun that fires two mines tethered together and able to detonate at your whim.

All three of these weapons can be used to string together kills, they fire well and are responsive to your touch. This can also be said of the Kick and Leash functions that interact well with what you're trying to do with few exceptions. The gameplay is fast paced, and encourages you to work fast, but definitely not efficiently.Unfortunately there isn't much to see save for a small trailer teaser of what the campaign will be, but if the campaign simply works with the gameplay to create a fast paced game with enjoyable to the highest power gameplay, this game will be worth picking up. Add the co-op modes and competitive modes and you have a game that is great and most importantly fun to play. As far as first impressions go, this is one that does its job of making its players look forward to the game even more. I cannot wait to see where this game goes.
