So when the game came out I had no real interest in it as I was much too busy playing super serious military shooters like Bad Company and CoD to bother with something that seemed so juvenile and beneath me.

But lately I've been craving something loud and colorful, something that doesn't take itself too seriously and is fun to play in a crazy, of-the-wall way. Brink and Lost Planet 2 almost scratched that itch what with the flashy costumes but more and more I keep going back to Bullestorm. Maybe I misjudged it or maybe I just had my head up my ass. I've watched a lot of gameplay and it really does look fun. I love the games art style. It's like what Borderlands might have looked like if they hadn't gone the cell-shaded route.

So I downloaded the demo and thought it was alright if a little on the short side. Kind of disappointing. But I'm still willing to give the game the benefit of the doubt. I've played a few lousy demos for games I bought later on and loved, Lost Planet 2 being one of them.

So, should I try it? Keep in mind I'm probably going to get a used copy of the game, hopefully under $20.

And if the answer is yes I should spring for the Limited Edition?

Than don't get it. For it does take itself seriously. The devs may claim that it's doing it ironically, but there's not really anything in-game to suggest that.

It may be loud and colourful, but fuck it takes itself seriously and the only "humor" comes from the swearing we've seen in every other shooter on the market.

I'd say no, but mostly because I found the trailers so distasteful that I won't ever consider it worth my time or money.

The demo is basically crap. But if you like to kick, whip and mutilate half humans and play an unconvential shooter, i'd recommend it for you. It's fun in it's own right, but the graphics do fall short and it's not as super explosive as you think.

.... But it's damn fun making nut-shots!

If you enjoy:

- kicking people in the face
- Steve Blum and/or Jennifer Hale
- stuff li [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H11N7medIU4]ke this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgqHMknkHDk]
- and my personal favorite, shooting baddies in the dick and watching them scream in agony

...then yes. Although be warned, the story does play itself rather straight and can have some awkward moments as such.

Then Limited Edition can go either way, really. All it is is some extra XP for online matchmaking and a few skins for character customization. Completely unnecessary, but the XP boost can help if you'd like to play online.

The levels in the game are much longer than the demo leads you to believe. If the game's loud, extremely crude humor appeals to you, and the very brightly colored levels are to your liking, then I whole-heartedly give it a glowing recommendation.

While it takes itself seriously, like Drummie says, that part in-and-of-itself is what makes it so light-hearted. The characters themselves know that the scenario they are in is so over the top and ludicrous that even the main character can't help but laugh his ass off and enjoy the fireworks.

In a way, really, I also found a lot more character in the game's characters than in a number of others. THis is namely because it isn't trying to force "YOU WILL LIKE THIS CHARACTER! IT BUILDS DRAMA!" down your throat. The main character is a drunk, revenge driven smart-ass. The chick (Trishka) has a SERIOUS attitude problem, the bad-guy (Sorano) is the true classic bad-guy, rather than some believable nut. All of these qualities make the game something enjoyable: It's so crazy and over the top, both in gameplay and in character, that it's just a fun play.

I was in a similar mood when I picked up the game and I did really enjoy it.

I agree with Drummie666 that you can't really say that it doesn't take itself seriously, it just knows what it is. A fun shooter more interested in good gameplay and weapon system than characther development or story (not to say that the story is bad, just don't expect to get a Half-Life deep story). And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

So yes, you should buy it for some summer fun.

A couple of mostly positive recommendations. I'm sold. Just may have to troll around Amazon and Ebay looking for a good deal for the next few days.

PS3 or 360?

Giant Robotic Dinosaur, Drinking yourself stupid and killing people on a dance floor while disco inferno plays in the background, A multitude of sexual innuendos, amazing vistas.

It's loud, colorful and a metric fuck-ton of fun. Highly advise you get it :)

I think it balances serious and silly quite well. It has a sense of humour but also wants to tell it's story which may be cliched but its still entertaining.

This is pretty damn accurate right here. I bought it because of peer pressure, and I have to say it was truly a breath of fresh air in a genre full of gritty brown super-realistic shooters.

I remember reading somewhere that Bulletstorm is what Duke Nukem Forever should have been. That seems to fit nicely.

It is funny at times, it's only good for one play through I think the story mode is 5 hours long or something like that. I liked it quite fast paced, there are cool skill shots. I'd say go for it. Giant robot dinosaur is fantastic.
