Nice pulling that out of absolutely nowhere. It's got nothing to do with controversy, but it has everything to do with me expressing my opinion that I find one exception in a genre to be enjoyable, while expressing that I don't like the more famous bands who lead the genre. Ultimately, it's me saying that I'm not a fan of this genre, but I find this one band to be awesome and an exception.

Do you see now? Or are you going to come up with something else to accuse me of?

I once put down a comment along the lines of "I really like this band, much prefer to it (insert band I don't like here that has a rabid fanbase)" and got blasted for it. Pretty much, it's people's inability to tolerate opinions that don't fall in line with their own. Also, they do enjoy flagging your comments as "spam", which amuses me, since I'm sure the majority of them talk about how great freedom of speech is.

That's happened to me a few times, all I say is "I like this band, probably more than [insert similar band here]", and you get all the "Its all opinions fuck you, just cause you don't like them." and I'm just left wondering "so you're saying mine wasn't an opinion then?" The point is, people get angry and defensive on the internet, no matter how nicely you put things.

To reiterate; expressing your opinion can be as simple as saying you like or dislike something. Expressing via comparison is also valid, but not always necessary, particularly when the thrust of your comment - "I like this band" - can be easily stated without adding the needless "way more than " addendum. It certainly seems to be courting controversy, wouldn't you say? Compare;

"I think the new Batman movie might be pretty good"

versus

"I think the new Batman movie might be pretty good, certainly better than the Nolan/Bale ones"

From what you posted above, it seems that what you were actually tryingt to say was "I don't really like this genre, but I do like this particular band", and didn't understand that the way you phrased it would make it look like you were dissing other people's music preferences. Am I getting warmer?

Eh, the closest I ever got was disliking Call of Duty during high school. I think I was one of the only people in my class who didn't play/love it. I bought world at war to give it a go and reeeeeeally couldn't get into it. At all.

Which amounted to blasphemy as a 15 year old in England.

It's not like they insulted me or anything though. People tend not to be jerks as much in person. It was just more like "OMFG how can you not like it it has guns and prestige levels"

Your second mistake was deciding that saying " X game is garbage" on a website that is notorious for having childish comments.

That's one of the primary reasons that I never liked Final Fantasy VII, because while staying at my uncle's house for the weekend, my black-belt bully of a cousin forced me to SIT AND WATCH HIM BEAT THE GAME, and then tell me that it's the best game ever.

If you use hyperbole, you're going to catch flak for it. Bioshock: Infinite is potentially a lot of things, depending on your point of view, but it is not garbage. Period. The visuals are high-end at worst. The gunplay, while derivative and repetitive and maybe even at odds with the narrative, is extremely functional. The story, writing, dialogue, etc. - definitely some issues, maybe even some fatal flaws, but all of it very objectively "top half". So yeah, decrying the game as "garbage" is foolish. Doing so in a forum well known for denouncing even the sanest declarations? That's what most people call "asking for it".

It's not surprising that you got negative comments when you post that on a BioShock related video. I hate Infinite (even 2 was better) but I wouldn't say it on YouTube of all places (second only to Twitter with idiotic comments) where the internet stereotypes shine bright. As far as YouTube is considered, BioShock Infinte and The Last of Us are the greatest games ever created and should be praised for their flawless gameplay and story, and every one who hates them are just ignorant.

Personally I run across this all the time, I hate Battlefield 3 with a passion but since I'm older than 13 that means that I am just a stupid person who can't 'grow out of kiddy play pen Call of Duty'. How do I deal with it? I try to get some enjoyment out of it, I know I'm making the people angry and keep making the comments (obviously not on YouTube, the cons outweigh the pros there) to annoy them.
