Heh, you make them sound like fleas, or some kind of disease...
Sometimes that's what it feels like.

I was constantly bullied because I was the only guy in the school system to have long hair. There were a couple of physical incidents in middle school. I was sent to the school psychiatrist a couple of times so the school could figure out why I kept my hair long. I had a guidance counselor pull me out of class for an hour so she could try and talk me into cutting it.

It pretty much eased up in High School after a sophomore in my gym class thought it was funny to tackle me during a game of flag football. I got to my feet as if nothing happened and continued playing.
That must be one of the dumbest reasons to pick on someone. I guess that bullies just find satisfaction in annoying others.

Also, engineering his break up with his girlfriend was ample payback.
How did you do it? :D

OT: Wouldn't say I was bullied but people were messing with me sometimes, and one time I grabbed a bottle and smacked it over his head. Noone ever bothered me after that!
Ha ha. Every one hated him, but his girlfriend gave him once chance. So I became real good friends with her, fed her bull about him, cause her to resent him. Eventually, she broke it off and left him heart broken. Now, he's nothing but a shell.

I think that a big problem in my school (and possibly many others) is that until 4th grade our teacher would easily take care of most problems that popped up, but once we got to 5th grade, the more serious bullying started and the teachers would do nothing.

I found nearly hitting one with a chair
And right then my respect for Insanum went up a bit more. Nice one, although I think actaully hitting 'em would have been more dramatic (and more psychotic, but hey)

OT: Erm I've been pretty lucky and was never really bullied. I've seen some people get pretty damn upset a few times but nothing half as serious as suicide.

I'd just like to say a few words to everyone who shared their stories. I realize it must be really hard talking about these experiences, and it takes a lot of courage to do so. Knowing what you guys have been through makes me respect you even more.

And to everyone who is dealing with bullying, I hope you can find some good advice in this thread.

I was bullied in years 7 and 8, and a little in year 9, and it was awful. I think I was bullied for being intelligent and actually wanting to pay attention and learn in lessons, which my 'peers' evidently found hilarious.
It was one of the least pleasant times of my life, and had me rarely leaving my house, staying inside the school every break time and crying myself to sleep every night.
Until last year, it also led to me having a real social anxiety, and an almost inability to express myself properly. After I took up parkour, things got better, but I still remember how socially inept I used to be because I was bullied in the early years of secondary school, and how that would probably still be having serious repercussions to this day had I not taken up excercising, and made friends who actually did stuff other than computers and video gaming (yes, those things do exist! :p)

Sure, I think that all that mocking I was subjected to when I was younger is the reason I'm "socially awkward" now. Actually, I was surprised at how fast I made new friends when I went to the University.

I'm (hopefully) going to university in six months, so I'm hoping things get better then :D

I think nearly everyone can identify with being bullied. However, I was never bullied so much as shunned.

People need to just embrace who they are, and then the bullying just seems like a small annoyance.
Thing is, most teenagers sometimes haven't found exactly who they are. Now that I'm an adult, I look back at the bullying I was victim of when I was in highschool, and it seems I would have found other ways to deal with it. But back then? No, not possible. I spent lunch and break times hidden in the stairwells to avoid the bullies.
