To the surprise of absolutely nobody, except apparently Bungie, a high profile actor whose stock has risen immeasurably high over the past four years, thanks to a certain series in which he plays the "god of tits and wine", is not able to just drop everything and swing by whenever you want him to record more lines for your game. How about that, eh? Given that Bungie KNEW they were going to be putting out a bunch of expansions and therefore KNEW that they'd need the actor playing Ghost to be available into the future rather than for just one "go"...the simple question is why they didn't spot this little problem before signing him up to the role?

Now they just need to find a writer.
and a plot, and gameplay, and fun....
That's a little unfair. I played it for about 2 months when it first came out and had a blast.

That being said, its writing, characters, setting, and story were pretty much nonexistent outside of some weird lore cards you could unlock.
it was a bit unfair, i agree. i had a great time playing destiny for awhile. i actually have a 32 titan, a 27 hunter and 28 warlock. but as the grind continued, as each new update came out where they broke the creative work-arounds players found for certain parts without addressing the actual problems with the game, as i re-read the descriptions of the version of destiny promised to us, as i had the absolute WORST online experience of any game (don't make a game online-only and then suck at building reliable servers...), as Bungie screwed up time and time again (unceremoniously firing their music guy, "you'll throw your money at the screen for our dances!", their approach the taken king.), all of that on top of a story that doesn't exist outside of their website... hell, they didn't even add an in-game codex like Mass Effect..

all of that added up to me sitting down one day and just saying "i'm bored of this game, and i'm done with this company."

it had none of the easter eggs and personality that they put so much effort into in the Halo games, it had nothing. seriously, go back and read what destiny was supposed to be like. customizable ships that you park in the hangar! change their paint jobs and weapons and fly back out there! so much they promised us, and instead we got shit.

destiny was a day one purchase for me, i bought the digital deluxe version. i won't make that mistake again. bungie has lost my respect, my trust, and my purchase.

that's not to say that i'll never buy from bungie again, but it won't be based on blind trust of the company anymore, they lost that. they'll have to really wow me and convince me that they've gotten their shit together.

Haven't played the game myself and I don't plan on ever picking it up, but it would be a nice service to keep Dinklage's voice in there as a separate option or something.
You should really watch a few let's plays and revisit that statement. I never played the game, never really plan to, but the sections where Dinklage speaks... well, the DGAF is unmistakeable. This is one of the few situations where the product would lose nothing from completely redone voice acting. North can at least pretend to care.
as is always brought up though, NO actor would be able to make "wizards from the moon" sound good.

i hadn't thought of that, but you're absolutely right. they've stated multiple times that Destiny was a "10 year plan" so they knew whatever they got would have to be pretty available during those 10 years. so they pick an actor that is exponentially more busy every damn day? smart movie bungie...

this, along with all the other reasons i stated in the post above make me think that bungie wasn't really as good a company as we thought, it was more of a symbiotic relationship with Microsoft, and as soon as they attached themselves to another host (activision) their ineptitude was made prevalent.

The actress who voiced Kyubey in Madoka Magica would beg to differ.

Regardless, "wizards from the moon" would only be difficult if played straight, although given how seriously the Bungie took itself, not surprising that they went that route.

And of course it's Nolan bloody North. Did some sort of rapture happen and take away all the other video game voice actors in the world, or is North himself some sort of voice acting Alex Mercer, absorbing his competition and taking on their characteristics? Between this and him replacing a third of the TF2 cast, it really seems like the man is going from "the guy who's in every video game" to "the guy who's every single video game character".

While I never jumped on the incredibly trendy Dinklage hate train for his work as Ghost, I can't imagine the game losing anything by bringing in someone else to do it. I guess Bungie must be counting on a selling a lot of copies of the bundled DLC version if they're willing to go to the trouble of re-recording all the original dialogue.

At the end of the day, poor voice acting is the least of this game's concerns. I enjoyed the gameplay for quite awhile but came away feeling as though the first DLC wasn't good value at all. Haven't played it in a long time now, and I'm definitely not willing to shell out the absurd sum of $40 for an expansion. You got greedy Bungie.

Creative director Luke Smith indicated that dialogue will be a priority moving forward, and it appears Ghost is going to be a crucial part of that.
Give it a rest, Luke. How you manage to remain employed is the most mysterious storyline Destiny has to offer.

I got lucky in a large number of ways. First, a friend of mine bought 2 copies of the game and gave one to me. So, it wasn't much of an investment. Secondly, he bought the PS4 as well... As a result, my opinion is higher than a lot of others.

That being said, Destiny 2 still seems like it could be really good, but I would advise anyone to wait and see for themselves before actually getting it.
