Ethers, Elixirs and Megaelixirs in final fantasy games. Just don't use them, ever. The fact that they're so rare as well makes me want to just keep them for the sake of keeping them. In the 14 years of playing final fantasy I have probably used less than 10 of these.

Every Fire Emblem game EVER. When ever I get a one time weapon, no matter how strong, I refuse to use it. Even if I have beat the game several times, and know every enemy in the game, I do not use it, I do not want it to break.
I know right?

Anyway, potions in RPGs that do something besides heal hp or mp. "Increased fire resistance", or any magical resistance for that matter, is never worth it in games, but they always take up all my inventory space in preparation of the off chance that Satan decides to pop up in the middle of the road.

This happens to me in every single game with an expendable item. If it can be used up, I will not use it, unless extreme dire situations occur. If the standard attack is the only "free" or replenish-able move then I will go through the whole game using standard attack :\.

But I might need it later? Easy.

The biggest and rarest support items for an RPG are to be used LAST and as an EMERGENCY. All those Elixirs and Mega-Ethers and what-have-you that replenish the characters back from ANY state of being (including death) are the last resort devices and not to be wasted.

Why? Because there's so few of them, usually. Do you know how many SP-refilling items you usually find in Persona 3 or 4? FEW! Against the whole of Tartarus or the TV-World, these items are puny and or lacking or even too important for spur-of-the-moment. Our characters are gas-guzzlers, and they don't always sell the stuff you need in shops.

So, in the case of at least some RPGs, it's not a matter of 'might', but 'will'. You WILL need it later when Lord Scumflagon of the Infernal Destiny comes calling with his massively huge attacks. That's what they're there for.

Yes, I do/did it a lot.

Especially in Halo. But I've learned to lean myself off of that kind of thinking.

I do it quite a lot, then after struggling a fair bit with whatever it is I'm doing, I realise that I'll never need it more than I did just there.
Welcome to the Escapist.

On topic, I do this quite a lot but the worse example of hording for me is in fallout 3 where I had 7000 microfusion cells and a plasma rifle and NEVER used them!(I had 6000 .556 ammo and a chinese assault rifle and used it all the time, 7000 electron charge packs for the tesla cannon, 1000 308 ammo for the sniper, 4000 flamer fuel for the heavy incinerator, etc.)

On topic, I have never used a Master Ball. Ever. I've been playing Pokemon since '95.
Don't usually have a problem in other games.
I once used a Master Ball on a... I can't remember what, but it was something I could have easily caught without it. Never again.

I always say it's better to have leftovers than not enough. It may make you look back and wish you had let things be easier, but I'd rather do that than wish I hadn't used up all my items before the surprise boss fight.

I always do this when playing Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. I never use the artillery because I always fear that the one time I do use it, I am going to desperately need it later on in the mission.

Fire Emblem. Fire Emblem. Fire Emblem. Spells, Weapons, Items, everything. System Shock suffers from this syndrome also.

When this happens in RPGs, I blame the RPGs. I'm ready to slap the guy across the face who invented the "Scroll of one-time 30% chance of increasing resistance to Light Damage by 5% for 16 seconds"
Then again, there are some items that are actually really good, and still don't get used. In First-Person-Shooters I've taken a stance of always using my biggest gun first. The huge supergrenade goes out when more than a few enemies are onscreen, and I seem to be generally the better off for it (though it depends on how available ammo is)
