Interesting cause from where I'm sitting you're the one making claims that are subtracting from the conversation with out really adding any meaning.

Ill also have you know I work professionally as both a concept artist and a gallery artist. And from my experience in both industries I have found what I have said to be true, when I'm designing for games, fashion, or just any other body of work I take visual cues from every possible little thing imaginable. Like Iv said I take the veins off leaves, Ill pull up lava flow charts and use them as brushes, Ill pull up light bulb, light fixtures, etc and so forth to design engine parts, art is found every where, to define it you do your self and everyone else a disservice.

Now I can guess from your post you not might be intelligent enough to see the beauty in this and I am sorry for that, really cause you're the one missing out. And if you haven't yet realized it the easiest way to troll people is to drop a forum where you try to have people define art, its pretty useless.. Like your comments that lack context, and a bit of history as to what is art, again tons of art movement are just born out of what preconceived notion of what art is supposed to be, and because of this we get a crap ton of bad art.

If your to arrogant or unintelligent to understand what I'm saying I can use smaller words next time and try to break it down a bit more but if you don't have a huge understanding of what your talking about please do me a favor and don't post about it.
Interesting. I thought it would at least take a post or two more for someone to use the 'well you're just stupid!' argument. Which is an argumentum ad hominem fallacy by the way. You clearly don't have the argumentative skills to hold a proper argument, so I won't even try. Good day.

Generally I consider something 'not art' if it's not original in any way in terms of its style, or if it's designed purely for brief entertainment and has no real message or meaning behind it.

Whether it's good art or bad art is just down to your own personal opinion I guess.

For an example, I'd consider Rockstar games from GTA IV onwards to be 'art' because they have a lot of interesting social commentary and tragic storylines, instead of just being chaotic fun like the earlier Rockstar games. I'd consider the earlier ones 'not art' rather than 'bad art' since they basically had no intention of being anything other than mindless fun at that point.

And in terms of something being art based on its style, I'm talking about stuff like Limbo and Journey, which don't have particularly in-depth storylines but are very visually unique.

You can't pick and choose.
Yes you can. A product is something made to generate money primarily, art is the same thing with the primary purpose of being a creative piece from the artists mind and not just to generate money. For example a product would be a small sculptured model sold and produced in mass quantities to generate a profit art would be a model made once by hand to be an expression of creativity.

Bad art is just poor creativity.

Lets see you post a hierarchy of criteria that something must fulfill in order to be art, which contains zero logic, reasoning, or comprehension of any art history what so ever.

I then reasonably support my opinion from not only reason, but a much more mature understanding of its place relative to history and context, that was not only gained by studying history but also application.

your next post to me...

HERRR UERRR DUUR you sound like a hippie cause ur usin them theerr artsy words ther .. and not only that you base your assumption of what something is only on the fact that it can be quantified in some sort of binary way..

So kid look its nice you have an opinion but unless you understand a little history and context then your gross misinterpretation what what something is or is not kind of looks utterly pointless and with out content. My post containing relative historical information which countered your point added to the discussion just cause it makes you look like a jack ass doesn't mean you need to get bitchy. Now if you'd like to be better informed about the subject I would highly recommend Marilyn Stockstads text on a comprehensive history of art its well written very informative, its even got those pictures that you don't think are entertaining... It would really help give at least a rudimentary understanding of art to some one, even of your stature.

BTW you were the first to use the well your just stupid..etc and so forth and that was your second post congratulations
