I'm sure this has happened to everyone. Pretty sure in fact. Ah well.

Whenever playing a game, ever come to the point where you thought the game would end, but in fact there was more content waiting for you to dive into?

While playing Bioshock. When you bash Andrew Ryan on the head, I thought that was the end of it. Considering the general length of games nowadays, [sub]played this 3 years but still[/sub], I honestly thought it was over.

More shooting, newer plasmids, MOAR LOCATIONS. I feel happy just thinking about that gem of a game~

So, which game surprised with more content the first time around? :D

First time? er probably mario and the princess is in another castle bit (what I was really young then ok). Most memorable time is probably Zelda Link to the past with the whole dark world thing that surprised me back in the day.

Cant think of much lately probably the last time was doing the survival mode challenge in Capcom vs SNK 2 where you have to fight all of the (massive) cast back to back which took me ages then when the final opponent on the list goes down and your celebrating another 2 super powered fighters (god rugal and shin akuma if I remember right) show up and you have to defeat them as well im glad I actually beat them or I would have been hella pissed off.

Assassin's Creed 2: After the big shockity-shock plot twist WTF event thingy, the credits roll while you're playing Desmond as they leave their hideout.

I thought Red Dead Redemption would end when you killed Bill Williamson. Boy was I pleasantly surprised to find the game was a whole lot longer. Now there was how to do a right proper story!

When I first played Bastion I was like "Only 6 cores that's it? Short game...", but sure enough, in the words of the Rucks "It ain't over yet, not by a long shot".

When I beat Medusa and the credits went rolling as Pit and Palutena started up the victory banter, I was like "Holy shit this game was sh-" then lo and behold Hades rips apart the credits to reveal I wasn't even halfway through the game yet.

And then I was like, Fuck yes!

This could be said of the original .hack games. I was playing through and having trouble with Skeith - despite being at least five levels over the dungeon's own - and finally put that kill-crazy jerk down when suddenly...

"Wait, he's melting into a puddle on the...ground? What'd that Phase 1 stuff mean anyway?"

"WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THIIING?! I don't have to fight that do I? What the hell!"

The appearance of Cubia solidified what I was already beginning to suspect about this game: That there was way more to it than I originally suspected. That was the end of the game, but when you consider that the developers delivered on all four parts - You know, with sequels that began to tell more of the story instead of stupid DLCs - this was the "BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!" for me. The .hack gaming phenomenon is a good gift to gaming.

How about Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. Great game for the "But wait there's more!", while coincidentally being for many (including myself!) quite possibly the worst plot twist in the history of video games.

While on the topic of JRPG's this one's really old but Lunar 2's gotta be one of the best examples here. By no means was this a short game, then you beat the final boss, get a bitter sweet ending, credits roll... then wait! A 5 hour epilogue to travel the world again basking in the glory of your victory on a quest for that proper happy ending!

A more modern equivalent would be if FFX included a much shorter version of FFX-2 at the end of the game. A lot of similarities there actually: beat the final boss, save the world, lose the guy/girl. X-2 kind of sucked though so Lunar's method of a shorter epilogue is probably better.

The first time it ever happened to me was with Pokemon Silver. I finished the Elite 4 and became the Champion and all that jazz, but then I find out I'm only half way through the game! I get to go back to Kanto and see how everything has changed and go through a whole new bonus adventure there. Blew my mind as a kid.

More recently it's happened with Okami. The game builds up to a fight with the main antagonist (or so you think), Orochi. But when you do that you find out you're actually only about 2/3 of the way through the game! There was another guy behind it the whole time! Orochi was just one of many minions. That was damned awesome. I would have been happy with the game being the length I originally thought it was going to be, but then it just kept getting better.

I can't think of any other game I've played which has done anything like that on that level.

Hmm. Pokemon Silver, Bioshock, and Saints Row 2 are what come to mind. And that's because people posted about them here.

That bit introducing it was the best part of the game! It was actually cool!
Followed by the most boring part of the game. Who thought it could get worse... SIGH

It's not quite the same thing, but I kind of liked that in Kingdom Hearts 2, they made you go back to each world again after completing the story of the movie it's based on. It did more to tie in what happened on each world to the overall story instead of just acting as filler for the original story stuff in the beginning and end.

That was seriously one of my favorite moments. I remember getting all excited for Ruby and Sapphire, thinking that there would now be THREE regions to explore, and TWENTY-FOUR gym battles, but no...

Yeah, that's one of the main reasons I was kind of disappointed with those games at the time. I felt like they had cut back the scope of the games by a huge amount, but as time has gone on I've appreciated that generation way more. They've become my second favourite after gen. 2, and I recognise a big part of why gen. 2 is my favourite is just nostalgia.

Happens a lot with Mario games, particularly Mario 3D Land. I was also pleasantly surprised to find the Master Quest included in the 3D version of Ocarina of Time.

Surprised in a good or bad way?

Bastion was a fair amount longer than I originally expected it to be.

Oh, the Crysis (especially that bit with the spaceship, which I believe was the crowning moment of the game) and Halo games.

And most recently I guess Darksiders 2, when I discovered that there's something like five main hubs and different 'worlds' to explore, and each map is only slightly smaller than the overall map from the first game. I can't even fathom how long it'll take me to get completely through that game.

Persona 4 is pretty much the best example of this ever... You have the main story which is constantly teasing you with who the killer is "it's this guy! Wait no? This guy? No? Oh come on!" and I can just point at the True Ending and say "pretty much that"

Best game ever for a reason XD

Batman Arkham Asylum.
During one of the later Scarecrow parts, the intro to the game was reversed and Batman was being wheeled into Arkham Asylum and you, the player, were given control of the Joker. After a while a cutscene starts, and it switches to Batman's POV. Joker pull out a gun and shoots you in the head. Then the game over screen appears, and in the spot where it usually gives you tips on how to beat the game after you die it tells you to waggle the sticks or something like that in order to dodge the Joker's bullet. I was so surprised since I didn't even know you could do that, and i was all ready to do it again, and do it right this time, and then BAM! it turns out the game was just trolling you, haha.

Pokemon Crystal. Beating the Elite 4 and then suddenly there's more! Bioshock was also that game for me too.
