At least the advertising in games hasn't sunk to the levels of advertising in the average Will Smith movie these days.

The only game I ever noticed any in-game advertising in was Crackdown, and the only time I actually saw it was when I read about it on the wiki.

One type of in-game advertising that isn't too bad is when you have games released for free that are ad supported, like either The suffering or second sight was when it was given away on filefront.

Hey, Advertising is already taken up all of your other hobbies. Magazines, Websites, Billboards, Radio, TV, Films. I don't see why they should'nt put advertsing in games.

(Provided it does'nt affect gameplay)

I completely ignore adverts in games. For example, I read an article noting Tony Hawk's Project 8 as a huge offender for having Nokia branding all over the place - I only realised once I'd read the article.

The only time I ever buy advertised stuff is when it's reminding me, not informing me. Also, if I like an artist who are advertising a new album, I'll buy that.

Does mirrors edge have advertising? I'm thinking of buying it (on PC) and I was just wondering if it had it.
Not as far as I know. I beat it and got all 30 hidden packages (didn't look up the locations, it was actually fun and satisfying! Haven't started on time trials yet though).

It has ads for fake things in the game because, well, you're in a city. So there will be billboards that you can run across that talk about products for the people there, like "blah blah blah, securing your life" or some garbage. You'll be running too fast to even notice, really.

Anyway, on topic:

I don't mind it most of the time. I liked the ones in, say, UT, where they advertise ammo and weaponry and such. I don't like it when it's a product that makes no sense, or a real product that doesn't really belong there (future games advertising current products and such)

I love fake ones, like in GTA III. Pogo the monkey was one of my favorites, as Fernando's New Beginnings.

Doesn't seem to ruin my experience.

I honestly don't care. Apparently there's all sorts of advertising in the last few Guitar Hero games but it's not caused me to suddenly go out and buy whatever it is they're supposed to be hawking. Seems I'm too busy focusing on the object of the game to notice irrelevant things going on in the background.

As for the Axe guitar, well, didn't really make much difference 'cos that brand of deodorant goes under a different name where I live... and I'd already been buying it for years before playing the game. And I didn't use or even buy that guitar in-game.
