I"m going to be buying a DS now ( No interest in 3DS or any of its games that I've seen thus far.) and I want to know what the best games on the system are, in your opinion. I'm open to pretty much anything...

I'm going to recommend my list of semi-obscures that really gives you a full sense of what the DS is about.
Ghost Trick.
Henry Hatsworth.
Lunar Knights.
Infinite Space.

I've only played Etrian Odyssey 3 so far, and that's pretty amazing, if unforgiving.

Wait, it's possible to enjoy that game?
I must have been playing it wrong...

Whatever, just wash your hands.
ghost trick, pretty much anything by atlus (assuming you can find the games they make, they tend to only do really limited runs) and the castlevania games for it

oh, if you have a dsi then get shantae advanced from the dsi store thing, I was really hoping it would have a boxed release but they couldnt find a publisher for it so they just released it on dsiware... store, whatever

Trauma Center: Under the Knife and its sequel. It's hard, implausible, and has awful voice acting, but it's so satisfying when you get S rating. You might want to look into Elite Beat Agents too.

Also, rent Phoenix Wright. Unless you are like me and like reading the same book over and over, in which case, buy it.

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia/Dawn of Sorrow/Portait of Ruin. Seriously, all three of them are great.
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
Final Fantasy III/IV
The World Ends with You
The Phoenix Wright series
Chrono Trigger

My personal favorite is Order of Ecclesia, seriously, if you're going to get a Castlevania for the DS, get that one.

Personal taste, I suppose. While not exactly for everyone, it's an excellent game, all the same. At least, I thought so. Sorry if I'm just being an idiot here.

999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors

It's a visual novel/adventure game. The game pulls off something quite unique; something that can only be done in videogames. The story and how it unfolds is brilliant. It might not seem all that extraordinary in the beginning, but if you have the patience and play it through to the VERY end prepare to have your mind blown.

There are multiple endings, but be sure to keep replaying the game and try all the different paths until you see the conclusive ending. It's very important that you see that ending. Skipping that ending would be like stopping at the middle of the book or movie.

The Pokemon series is the best series on the DS. You could also get the Megaman Zero Collection, those are some fun games.
